Blue-tinged LBM, Welsh woodchip
    #13025337 - 08/09/10 06:44 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

So the woodchip had surprises today.

Phallus impudicus and flies.  They're lovin' it!

See that itty little mushroom on the right?

The blue is very strong.  What's that?

That bluing is probably oxidation of psilocin. Mushroom looks very active!

Cool finds man!

Thanks everyone.

Re: libs they are a little like libs, with the translucent olive striations and the size is right, but the drying pellicle is still olivaceous/grey and doesn't separate, the nipple is just an umbo, the gills are very pale with a yellow/cream tinge and the stem is that very twisted brown.  Also the blue is distinctly blue tinges to the gills, not like bruising.  And it's in woodchip.  For some reason I'm sensing deja vu though and expect someone to step in with a type of Mycena or something that clears it all up.

Still excited to find out.  I'm in central North Wales atm, on a mountainside, and this woodchip is around a play area in the garden.  We have had steady light rain since early.

This particular one is tending through olive to brown/black, and looking closely at the other two I cannot see the blue so much as a general darkening.  I am thinking I should put this down to a trick of the light, and this is an inactive Mycena.

i would say you found some of those blueing mycenas by the look of the gills. way to go man! print it white paper.
i am not sure why anyone would guess a liberty cap when its clearly in wood, wouldnt a peliculosa or a silvatica, 2 wood loveing semi like mushrooms,be a better match if it was a psilocybe?

I'll see if I can get a print out of them, thanks psylosymonreturns!  And thanks all, if these don't print I'll just keep tabs on the patch, I'd need to gather a few more specimens before I would guess active, and that's totally doable, but Mycena then.

well these blue mycenas are kinda exciting in my mind. they have been found all over the place now. and we know with active mushrooms in other genus like gyms, activity is good on one place and not in another. so there is always a slight chance we may find an active blue mycena out there. definetly print it. there is some folks around here who would like to see em under a scope.

Trying that, and maybe my dinky USB microscope will be useful then.
