Questions about my second grow

I received pink, blue, and elm oyster, along with a King Stroph LC syringe in the mail, totally stoked!
We drove all the way to the closest City with health food stores, and not one had even heard of "Rye Berries". Even the local natural food Coop acted like I had asked for something that may not even exist. I did see some "spelt berries", and ran a quick search on my phone, and saw that some people had had some successes using it. I remembered coming across Doc's WBS tek multiple times, and decided it would be my best choice since I can't get rye berries locally. The closest place is 60 miles, but they are quite proud of their rye berries. So I'm going WBS, working on soak right now.
A couple questions. I made a potential mistake, over spent my money too, but:
1) I bought Kaytee brand WBS, search function seems to say that it's fine. But the bag says "Covered with KayCote". Think it should be okay?
2) There is only 3cc of each. I'm worried that if I use my quart jars, I will only be able to do two max. Can I use my smaller jars, I have some of the taller 1/2 pint jars? I feel like if I'm going to accidentally contaminate a jar, let it be one, and not the one and only. Quart, 1/2 pint, does it matter?
3) Sometimes teks can be improved upon, or "updated". Anyone have any advice for this tek? Followed to the T so far!
Thanks in advance!

1cc is per quart jar is plenty. You can definitely use smaller jars for grain, and less LC respectively. If you had said "rye grains" you might have gotten some answers, but the half baked hippies at the health food store were probably getting hung up on the fact that you said "berries". I have used spelt before and it is pretty The only reason I didn't keep using it was it's high price @ 2.50 lb. Tao

if you use smaller jars, you will be able to do more and if they happen to contaminate hopefully you'll still have a few at the end...
Then you could grain to grain those jars into a bunch of bigger ones. You could also make a grain LC with one and have a new syringe that way.
Good luck

Thanks guys! I'll save a drop or two of each for agar, when I can afford it. I want to get a laminar flowhood, agar, and some quality pyrex/glass dishes, and all the "cleanroom" equipment at the same time. Thanks for the advice.
I'm still very skeptical about the added "Kaykote" to the bird seed. But I'm still stoked. It feels like I've read every oyster thread to date. I find myself reading the teks I've already read, over and over and over. Best hobby ever.

I appreciate the offer-I'd be so much more interested in finding a good, continuous source for rye grain. I appreciate the offer though man-five shrooms to you my friend. Buried deep within the Shroomery are people just like you, who are willing to go out of their way to help a fellow Shroomerite. I can't wait to get the ball rolling on some edibles, and give back to the community.
I'm thinking of planting rye on a couple acres I own. Need to do some more reading on the subject. It never gets old ....
