If you're referring to the growth in the jar that is in the middle, yes it looks contaminated. Sometimes early growth will look off white and often cottony, but yours looks straight up gray. Possibly bacterial rot.

What you describe - off white and cottony is what it looks like to the naked eye.
It's at all 4 inoculation points as well.

Now that sucks. Why'd you have to give him bad news?

cube myc is very white. the only myc that I have seen thats brighter is trich (green mold) then it turns green once it starts to sporulate.
the only way to know if your LC is good is to test it.

Haha, I'd rather know sooner than later.Quote:

Well, he was referring to the BRF jar in the first picture...but he says off white and cottony which is very much what it looks like when I examine it closely.

What I've read about cob-web is that it would colonize the jar VERY quickly, which doesn't seem to be what's happening here.

when its grey like that its 99% of the time cobweb.
cobweb is usually caused by lack of gas exchange.
hows your GE set up in your lids? # of holes and sizes and do you have any other filter besides verm?

4, slightly larger than the size of the needle (maybe 1/8th inch?), and nothing other than a dry verm layer.

GOOD MYC is a very bright white but when it comes out grey its a high chance of cobweb. i mean H2O2 can help but since it's in the jar all i can say is TOSS EM. and next time BE MORE STERILE

It's been a couple days, have you confirmed it is in fact cobweb? The link to the close up picture looks like rhizo to me but I was wondering what it looks like today? Did you use a pressure cooker or steam the jars?

Looks like good growth to me too- but the color is key. If it's pure white and looks like that, it's good. If it's not pure white, doesn't matter what it looks like- it's not cubensis.

Yeah, it absolutely wasn't pure white in the least - that's why I pitched them. Sad, and disappointing, but good reason enough to try again.
