Mycelial growth question, w pics ;)
    #13021265 - 08/08/10 11:12 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Sup, so this is my first time growing, i'll just say "its the easiest strain to grow," which btw is why im having trouble. Within this post there are pics of what my jars look like after 4 weeks, maybe even 5, which leads me to believe that there is a problem. There kept in a constant 75-80 degree room. I used 1 syringe per 2 jars and i have 4. This much growth surprised the shit outta me because when i inoc'd it was like 2-3 hours after i sterilized.. Anyway,i used the pftek grow guide on youtube(which didnt mention to wait over night) and ive also been reading the MMGG on erowid.org. So you know the background so now by the pictures what can be done to finally get these jars to 100% colonization?

You could try flipping them upside down maybe the top would colonize faster. They look like there all healthy to me didn't see any problems. Half a syringe per jar is a lot more then you'd probably need but they look good, pf tek can be slow sometimes since you can't shake them like grain.

Waiting overnight to noc your jars up isn't necessary it's just suggested so you don't inject into hot substrate and ruin your spores which can be an easy mistake for a newbie with no patience.

Actually they are fine.  No flipping should be necessary.

It does look like you used a deep verm barrier.  Seeing
as you were clearly able to inoculate through it this
is only a benefit now. (well, it makes for a smaller cake,
but this is not a problem)

...and I have to add that waiting until the jars are cool
before inoculating them is still a very good idea.

You should be able to inoculate 8-10 jars with one syrings,
maybe more maybe less, but 2 jars per syringe is very heavy.

1 cc/ml  per jar..25 per hole. You will know when the jar is done if the bottom is completely colonized. And then give it 3 days at the very least .  It probably took a while to colonize because it wasn't at optimal temperature. Which is around the low 80s . The cooler temps is just fine. Hotter temps will allow contaminates to grow faster .

cool! this is great news, i was worried there for a bit. Now as far as the fruiting methods go ive read about the "poor mans" terrarium, how do they compare to the type of fruiting chamber used in the pftek vid: a plastic container with holes and perlite for humidification?
