Myco bag, is this safe??

I bought a few bags and decided to try one at a time and see how it goes. So this bag looks like it has "gunk" in it, a bit like grease or something from the rye. Is this safe to use, should I re-sterilize this pre-sterilized bag or send it back and get a new one? Any comments would be very helpful, thanks

Not sure it looks that bad. Looks like some excrete from the seeds on the sides and bottom. Wasn't washed and drained to perfection. I would still try it if I had an abundance of liquid culture.

Thanks Doc, was hoping someone like you would answer. I didn't check to be honest when they arrived, bit of a newbie you see. This bag has been sitting in a draw at room temperature for about 5 weeks maybe. The other bag colonised well, though there was myc piss at the bottom when I went to case it with vermiculite, and I'm just being patient and waiting to see the results in another week or so before I inoculate this bag, it does look a bit odd though. Should I send it back and get a new one?? Thanks

That bag is definitely bad. Presterilized bags should always be used as soon as possible. 5 weeks is way too long to wait.

Sterilization is a relative term. It's never complete with grains. You should have used it immediately upon arrival. Personally, I won't let grain bags sit for more than 24 hours after removing from the sterilizer before inoculation. If I get busy and they sit longer than that, I toss them. RR
