How much spawn in a 40 gal mono? I think it's 10 quarts, but am not too sure.

use a 1:2 spawn ratio. 1 part spawn to 2 parts bulk substrate. HL

Well if I'm using a 1:3 ratio how many quarts of spawn go into the tub? I could use a quart jar and some verm or something to figure it out, but it would be nice if someone knew.

10 quarts of bulk sub would get 5-6 quart jars of grain spawn from me.

So 15 or so quarts of spawn + sub would be sufficient for a 40 gallon mono? I'm looking to get a 4" depth or so. Maybe a little less.

Damn you guys are using some high spawn ratios. I always use at most a 1:3 if not a 1:4 ratio.

Me too. You get more bang for your buck.

the idea is that you want the mycl to take over the bulk sub faster than anything else can. lower spawn ratios are said to increase contam risks.

I ain't doin' the math for you. I know how much spawn is needed to fill any size tub no matter what spawn ratio I decided to use. I use a high spawn ratio because 1) I have the spawn and 2) A higher spawn ratio is insurance against contaminates, colonizes faster and has more flushes. HL

Quart of WBS costs about 30 cents to make.

Oh, I don't know- I think it's lame that people come here and ask others to figure how much substrate they need. You're looking right at the tub- if you can't figure it out, then you need to work on that.

I'm pretty sure I can figure it out. You don't need to be a dick about it. Stop being so concerned about your e-penis.

Pour quarts of water into your tub untill you have the desired depth, you can even dip a ruler into the water. Now you also have to factor in that your substrate is not as dense as water so it will end up a bit higher than the water was but it is no big deal.
