okay... so... i must be doing something wrong. but i'm not sure what... so i'm hoping i can get some help. My cakes are pinning, but my pins aren't growing. Except for one single defiant mushroom.
Lets see... inoculated June 13, birthed July 20 (initial post: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12860929)
Two days after birthing, and I already had some decent pins. (follow up post: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12931243)
There were initially 6 cakes (3 B+, 3 Ecuador) ... unfortunately I made the mistake of confusing the bluish color of bruising with mold, and threw two of them out (lesson for next time - have isolation chambers ready). I soon realized what the bluish color was, and made sure to save the rest of the cakes.
Problem: out of 4 cakes, and about 20 pins, only one grew.
Watching this one particular mushroom grow was crazy! It grew about an inch in the span of 8 hours... breaking the veil about 2 hours after that.

The humidity lvls in my FC fluctuates between 98 and 100... but I noticed my cakes were looking very very dry. I never did do a dunk and roll after birthing. So... figuring that at this point I had nothing to loose, I dunked for 24 hours and rolled in verm before placing back in FC.
That was three days ago... today two cakes look like this:

As far as I can tell.. this one cake just has that one plump pin right smack in the middle of it.

The other two cakes show signs of nothing:

Its really hard to tell by the pictures (unless you consider the subtle grayish color to them) but I'm pretty sure most of my cakes had cobweb growing on them... I say think because the verm kinda messes with my eyes and makes it hard to really deduce what's going on under there.
I went ahead and squirted a bit of 3% peroxide on the cakes... and, well, again it's hard to tell... but I think the cakes have a much less grayish cottony look to them now.
so.. two concerns... although it's still early to tell if these new pins will stunt or grow... why did my apparently healthy and happily looking pins not grow on my "first" flush?
It's damn hot right now where I live.. inside room temp tends to fluctuate between the low to mid 80s. Maybe it's too hot for the pins to grow? so... I'm thinking that the combination of a hot and humid FC increases the changes of cobweb growth... whereas humid and cool would not??? is my logic correct?
I sort of feel lost right now.

They look kinda dry are you misting often? I'd suggest to still mist even if your humidity is were it should be. You might not be giving them enough FAE as well which would cause the aborts.

You aren't using a shotgun FC....or perlite....

My fruiting chamber is simple, no fancy getups or setups - a plastic box, moisture retaining substrate, and natural sunlight. My biggest challenge so far has been trying to lower the temperature in my chamber, since it's been so damn hot these days... sometimes the fan just isn't enough.
For moisture retaining I decided not to use perlite in my fruiting chamber. I had to use that stuff once before when re-potting some plants, and it's terribly dusty and horrible to work with... not to mention toxic... and I have no interest in using it.
Instead I opted to use growstones, which are made from recycled materials, are non-toxic, and (according to their site) hold more water and air than perlite. Anyway... It was available to me at my local gardening store, so, I really didn't think about it too much.
Growstones or hydroton/geolite will not hold more water and air then perlite.
You need to drill 1/4" holes on all 6 sides of your FC (the 4 walls, the bottom, and the lid).Fill with 4"-5" of wet/damp perlite in the bottom.Mist and tehn fan,but most of your FAE will come from the 100's of 1/4" holes you make in the tub.
You wany a wet dry cycle.A huge pinning/fruiting trigger is evaporation of moisture from the substrates surface, and then replacing that moisture continuing the cycle. Also, dunk for 12-24 hours and then roll in dry vermiculite after birthing, and dunk for 12-24 hours in between flushes for best results.
