SUBSTRATE too dry before innoc? Help me out here.
    #1301460 - 02/12/03 03:09 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Alright, a dog i know followed the pf tek very closely and it seems like the ratios of water were not correct because the substrate is pulling away from the bottom of the 1/2 pint canning jars after about a day. The dog has yet to innoc the jars yet, so what can he do to fix this problem without scapping everything or without flooding too much water into the substrate? This is BF + Vermiculite - 1/2 pint jar project just in case you didnt know.

Thank you.

I'd suggest starting over.. verm and br are cheap.. spores are not ..well that depends.

But, again, it might take you a whole 20 minutes to redo those jars for a few weeks of failure by trying to adjust the water content!!!!

Good luck!

if you followed it "very closely" you have the right ratios.
you could inject sterile water to moisten it more.
i wouldnt throw it away, if you make more they will be the same, what would you do differently? not follow the TEK?

i have had the same problem, but i had already inoculated. one of may jars has actually split. there is the op half, with groth, ant the bottom half which has yet to begin growing.

i figured, hey, if it is still growing, it will EVENTUALLY be fully colonised. i am not in THAT bigga hurry.
it will colonise right?

Just be careful not to add too much water. Almost all of my first attempts had too much water and got sour rot. Dirty feet smell times a million. YUCK!

a dog i know found out there is enough moisture in them, just by looking closer. He then proceeded to innoc and put in his chamber! =]
