Thanks, told ya I probably just made that up and sorry to RR for attaching his name to my inability to read and follow suggestions. I can't believe I got that so wrong I read that doc I also now see where he recommends only 1 shake, damn, and I thought I was good at following direction, lol. Well, I still have the colonized jars, I'll keep my fingers crossed on the G2Gs who knows, and I'll just keep trying, on the plus side I learn more from my fails then I do from my wins. Thanks guys!

That is not true though. After sterilization, a medium is free of living organisms. That is the definition of microbiological sterilization. A properly sterilized jar will keep "forever" (in reality they tend to dry out after a few months unless closed off in some way).

So, I'm about to dump a bunch of jars, what an epic fail, days of work down the drain. Some of these I would say were over 95% colonized. Is there anything I can do to potentially get some shrooms from them so it's not a total wash? ie bury them in the garden and cross my fingers.

I just disposed of 7 jars in the way you described. Some of the didn't smell too bad, all of them had a mushie smell, a couple of them had a really off sourness to them, I'm guessing some flavor of bacillus, I know it from brewing beer. The mushie gods did not smile on me for this grow, hopefully I'll fare better next time.

In your case, with the spawn, I would get a bag of cow manure (field aged manure would be best) or prepare some coir and place the manure or coir over the spawn so the spawn could colonize the manure or coir. Place a sheet of clear plastic with slashes in it for GE over the substrate and check it every day for moisture content, watering when the substrate becomes dehydrated. Once the substrate is fully colonized, remove the plastic and cover with leaves or grass clippings watering in once in the morning everyday or every other day as needed. Mother nature will take care of the rest. HL
