All-American PC (Problem?)
    #13011574 - 08/06/10 10:14 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, so I took the plunge and got an All-American 921, I was excited to upgrade but when I opened the box I was like WTF.  The PC aluminum was covered in pitting.  Is this normal?  Seems like these are perfect places for dirt, bacteria, and a host of other miscreants to thrive. I would have expected something a bit more finished like the machining on the lower outside piece.  How hard would it be to accomplish this with today's technology.  Anyways, take a look at the pics and let me know please if this is how it is supposed to look.

thats normal.  is that a brand new PC?  mine did that after they heated up a few times with dust on the top.
there is no need to worry about contams hiding anywhere, the whole unit gets sterilized everytime it runs.

That sucks that that is normal, I thought this was the Royals Royce of pressure cookers, looks like a piece of crap.  Anyways, thanks for letting me know, and yes...it is brand new, I am gonna break it in the weekend.

The top shouldn't be pitted.  Take a green scouring pad and see if it polishes right up.  If not, it could be a display unit that sat out in salt air or something.  All the ones I've seen were highly polished when opened up.  The grooves on the bottom are normal though.  They help it absorb the heat.  Don't forget to put a small amount of vaseline on the beveled metal to metal seal between the cooker and lid before each use.  It will last a lifetime.

Bear in mind, a PC is a tool, not a designer kitchen accessory to sit out and look pretty.  If the AA is sound and seals well, you got your money's worth.  In a few years, they all look tarnished and faded, but they're something your grandkids will pass down to their grandkids with stories about great-great-grandpa and the shit he used to put in it.

According to the All American website the 921 is the most popular. That is what I have too. If you go to Amazon.com then you will probably find the best price as well as all of the details on how many jars etc each pressure cooker holds.

Mine's that size too, I love it. 10 quart jars or four half gallons.

You'd be surprised. It's not much more than shipping within the US if you do it right.
Vendors and anybody running a business have to have insurance or registration. Expensive.
But if you trust Canada Post to do their jobs, it's no big deal.

Under $100, shipped.

I've seen AA pressure cookers in several of the Home Hardware stores I've been to in BC.

Yea, it looks like shit for a brand new top of the line PC.  It does not clean up and some of those pits are fairly deep (sticking a pin in the hole for depth) it also has a few of those pits on the metal to metal seal...yikes.  I am gonna get them to exchange it and hope it ends up better, I am pretty disappointed with All American for there quality control, I understand the groves are for better heat disbursement but the bottom still is riddled with many, many holes.
