pride or bragging?
    #13011133 - 08/06/10 07:58 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

i normally just lurk around looking for answers but thanks to the information i've found, especially from a few key patrons,my fist go around is going beautifully.i had some colonization within forty-eight hours of inoculation.a small issue/scare from metabolites but thus far that is all.

i'm using a modified pf tek because while the pf tek works well enough a couple changes seemed to be needed.not tamping down the substrate being a big one.four holes in the lid were taped and then the top covered with aluminum.steamed for ninety minutes, cooled on a rack.

i didn't have a glove box but still wore a mask, alcohol on the gloves, flamed the needle, worked in a closed room.basically did what i could with what i had (wish i would have read the lysol thing earlier).
originally i had left both the tape and foil on after inoculation but after further reading i took off the tape.that's when the metabolites showed up.further reading induced me to immediately remove the foil today.

i keep them in an aquarium that's openings have been covered with filters and has an aquarium air pump giving it fresh clean air.

is there anything i'm missing or is this hobby really this easy?this is an honest question.

Have you birthed the cakes yet?

If so then what are you using to provide a means of humidification?

thanks for the quick reply.
still colonizing, only day seven.after birthing i was going to put perlite into the aquarium (wet of course).for the lights i got a couple fifteen watt blue day-lights.they'll be off the perlite with hardware cloth as per the directions for the economy semi-automated fruiting chamber i found here.

like i said,i think i got this but sometimes i get over confident when i have a little good luck.

Just make yourself a shotgun FC instead of rigging up the aquarium...it will probably work a lot better anyways.

thank you again.

i had that in mind originally but due to cost, availability, and size constraints i went with  http://www.shroomery.org/9045/The-Economy-Semi-Automated-Terrarium .the only ten gallon container i could find was mail order and i couldn't justify spending more on shipping than on the container itself.also the cost of a small drill came into the equation.

but thank you anyway.aside from that i don't seem to be over looking anything do i?
