Animals and waste rye berries
    #13010916 - 08/06/10 06:00 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Slightly OT;

I often put out bird seed for the mice in our garden (they're cute and, if sufficiently fed, have no particular reason to come in the house).  The pigeons and squirrels obviously partake as well.

When I have a jar of rye grain that's stalled (bacteria) I often put that outside for the critters, and they gobble it up.  I don't leave any big chunks of colonized material, but obviously there'll still be plenty of mycelium on the grains.

I haven't seen any strangely-behaved mice around, and my cat doesn't seem to be having any more luck at catching them, so do you reckon it's safe for the little buggers?

If you're talking about cubensis mycelium, there's very little actives until fruiting.  They'll not be harmed.
