this might sound stupid, but the posts ive read talk about the filters themselves. so is it something you buy to put in a fan? if so, what kind of fan do you use? sorry if this is normally a common sense situation. i know next to nothing about air purifiers. thank you.

Are you talking about a flow hood?
Here is the thread I started when I decided to build mine.
It should have all the information (or links to) that you could need.

no, i just want a filter for my house. apparently i have problems with lipstick mold, which start in my monotub and make its way to my toilet. its fucked up. it doesnt sound like lipstick mold is all that common, but ive got it bad right now, gonna let my first flush finish and toss it. ive cut out probably 15 spots and sprayed w/ peroxide, but its not slowing down. but back to the point, i want something to filter the air in my house. sorry for the rant, im slightly salty about all this.

Get one of those ionic ones to reduce the overall spore load.

Oh and you should have chucked the contaminated tub immediately. You are just spreading it around at this point. And every time you go and cut some out you may as well be loading the spores into an aerosol can and spraying it around like air freshener.

i thought lipstick mold could be dealt with by cutting and spraying with peroxide? its a little late now i guess. ive got a bunch of pins already, ill throw it out when i pick...the idea of having a tub w/o contamination is a dream for me. i dont get what im doing wrong. and its not in my spawn. ive heard someone say that before, and this time i gave each one a decent check before i threw it in.

And how is that working out for you?

Does it contam before the first flush? Probably bad spawn.
But wash your hands better, and wear gloves and a hairnet when you spawn to bulk.

i dont see how it could be my spawn. wouldnt i see it in the jars? i pc wbs for 90 min. at 15psi, i have good sterile technique for inoculation. im more than willing to take your advice, you seem experienced. but i im not seeing where i would be screwing up, if we were to assume the spawn was bad. the mold doesnt show up for about a week after i put it into fruiting. idk if thats relevant. sorry for the rant. if you have any advice, id greatly appreciate it.
oh, and on my last monotub, the cutting and spraying worked ok, but i got to it when there was only one spot. im guessing its gotten a little more out of hand here.

Been there done that. If it contams before the first flush, it's bad spawn. Or your bulk prep is so bad you need to just start over at step one.
Contamming a week in... leave one tub covered, out of the fc. See what you get.

well, i believe its damion50's tek. i take 2 buckets, a brick of coir, some verm, boil some gypsum into the water, dump a gallon into each bucket and stir an hour later. when i mix it, i wipe off my table, put gloves on, pour from the bucket, dig spawn out w/ a spoon wiped w/ alcohol. it takes me probably like 3-5 minutes, and it is in open air. could this be the problem? and im doing monotubs if i didnt state that before. heres an idea i ahd while trying to fall asleep: when i put into fruiting, i always have to soak up quite a bit of water off the surface, then it starts to yellow real bad, my temps arent too high, id be surprised if it was as high as 75 in my house. the "high points" of my substrate usually get kinda matted looking and slightly bruised. idk if maybe im drying it out too much, i figured the myc would have a more difficult time holding its ground if it were too dry. but really, its just the parts that stick up the most. idk. im reaching. thank you for your help so far doc.

Alcohol works for sanitation. IF the contact time is long enough. Its far from sterile.
If you want to use a spoon, flame it.
Best procedure, IMO, is to shake the jar the day before you plan to spawn, breaking up each kernel.
This gives you the benefit of having the grains broken up, plus a days head start for the mycelium to recover. Then just dump the grains in.

I would suggest preparing the bulk substrate using proper pasteurization to eliminate that as the source of the problem. Dumping hot water on coir works for most people, but not all.

This makes me question how you are providing the proper fruiting environment... are you going for neglect on the monotubs or is there more involvement with fanning and misting?

ill look into other pasteurizing methods. and i do mist and fan, but the water creates puddles and almost digs into the myc. its condensation from incubation, which is usually around 80 degrees. i incubate in the room w/o the AC and keep the door closed, also keep the snake in there, which has 2 thermometers in his cage, its usually around 80. but i dont understand what you are wondering about my fruiting. I'd be overjoyed if there was something i was doing wrong, would be easier for me to fix than fixing my pasteurization method. btw, what would you recommend for pasteurizing coir? thanks a lot guys. hopefully i can make some progress.
