10 Month old LC, Still good??
    #13007486 - 08/05/10 01:48 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys I just got around to having enough time to start cultivating again but I don't have any spore syringes left and I just found some old LC jars that I've kept in my cool basement in a box. I'm wondering if they are still good, it's been 10 months exactly now and the myc is looking thick. Check it out! let me know what you guys think!

Only one way to find out.  Make and inoculate some PF test jars.

The glob looks darkish....is that the picture or how it really looks?  If its white I'd say sure, give it a shot, whats the worst you could lose?

The LC is a bit dark in color but on the outside it looks like clear healthy myc, ill give it a try and knock up some PF jars. Crossing my fingers now, thanks for the input guys

Let us know how it goes.  I have a lot of LCs finishing up and just starting to be ready to use and I'm curious how long I can keep them around without worrying about them.

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is an "LC" jar?

LC = liquid culture.
You grow mycelium in a water based nutrient solution that can be injected via syringe into a jar of substrate.  It starts faster because the spores are already germinated and the mycelium only needs to recover for a short while before beginning to grow again.

Ah I see... Thank you for clarifying! :smile:

Im sure I could look this up now, but does liquid culture basically just involve introducing a small piece of mycelium into a container filled with nutrient enriched water, where it then propagates??

Sounds kinda like Hydromycology lol.

Don't want to jack this thread, you should do a search, theres lots of info on the,.

However, you can use a small bit of mycelium from a colonized jar, or you can use spores.  Or a wedge of agar, anything really.
