drying shrooms with moisture absorber in pressure cooker
    #13000844 - 08/04/10 10:42 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hey people,

I'm drying my shrooms in a pressure cooker to avoid both light and air exchange by using the moisture absorber system inside it. it's been 24 hours and I did not see any significant drying with them. What do you think how long does it take them to dry really well?

And also I did not know about the fan tecnique untill I see it in shroomery.org yesterday. Where is it possible to find fans? how long does it take my shrooms to dry with fan? I'm seriously afraid of losing potency with this tecnique because it's quite hot here in summer and I heard and experienced the heat make them lose potency.

Sorry it's been a long post. Hope to get efficient answers.
Peace to you all.

Dry them with a regular fan blowing in them. Time of drying depends on their size but 3-4 days should do it. After you dry them with a fan, then put them into a desiccant chamber(pressure cooker).
I don't think they will lose potency if you dry them in a shady place with fan constantly blowing in them, mine didn't:wink:

Fan drying is a common technique.

I use it.

I fan dry for 2 days, then toast in the oven at 220F(I prop the door oven so that it only gets up to 120F towards the front and 140F at the back) for two hours.

I'm thinking about getting a box/tub that seals up that I can use silica cat litter in. Its really cheap and reusable.

I tried drying with straight desiccant(damp rid) and it took nearly a week to get "cracker dry." I've since switched to drying with a box fan for 24 hrs and then putting in the desiccant chamber.  You will not lose potency using this method, even if it were 150 degrees out.  Heat significantly decreasing potency is a myth. Shoot, RR suggests you cook your shrooms to combat nausea. Dry your mushies with a fan and then desiccant and enjoy the trip from your still potent fruit

thanks for the reply but are you sure that that the heat decreases potency is a myth? because I saw it in Erowid's magic mushroom growers' guide and it tells the only thing we should do is to avoid heat not to decrease the potency.

Tea doesn't degrade potency by more than 10%, which is tolerable.  The reason for nausea is that our bodies can't digest raw mushrooms, thus the stomach wants to reject them as a foreign substance.

Try baking your mushrooms next time.  Rub some olive oil into the caps, and your favorite salad dressing into the gills.  Add salt and pepper, and then sprinkle bread crumbs or corn flakes on top for a breaded topping.  bake just until the liquid in the gills starts to boil, or until the topping browns well.  Cubensis is actually a gourmet mushroom if prepared properly, and potency isn't impacted much at all by the heat.  The best part is little to no stomach upset if you'll cook them first.

keep in mind, tea is usually made at near 200 degrees.  Just about everyone here dries this way unless they use a dehydrator.  And even then, some fan dry before putting in the dehydrator.

Yes. I have used boiling ethanol for extraction.
