stay away from that surplus army stuff is my advice, a lot of it is contaminated with depleted uranium if it was shipped, stored, or used with other ammo and equipment. just a wee bit of advice. they probably have a version for outdoor stuff that does not come from the babykiller sources tho. good luck.

presence of depleted uranium in army surplus stores and items if a reality and a fact. that stuff is really being used and makes people as sick as hell. just trying to help. something to consider.

Any bicycling store or REI will have camelbaks or other "hydration packs."  I live in CO and see them fucking everywhere...  There are several manufacturers, I like CamelBak myself, but it's only because we carry them at my bike shop and get pretty awesome discounts from them.

CamelBaks are awesome. A hiking/ biking necessity.

I sort of wish mine had a bigger bladder but she gets the job done.

I just picked up a North Face Terra 30 soft frame pack :awesome:

Unless someones comming in direct contact over long periods of time of weaponry with depleted uranium, your gonna be fine. Trace elements of it isn't going to harm anyone. Also Radiation isn't going to be transfering to a camel back.

the majority of what's used by the military is destroyed or just left

Now where on earth did you get that from?  Most of the stuff comes when the company makes more than the army buys.  Even if it did come from the military, bullets don't fragment and vaporize into dust just sitting, and the problem with the depleted uranium bullets in battle are because when they hit metal and concrete they fragment and create dust particles of depleted uranium that can be inhaled.  Depleted uranium isn't harmful unless it's absorbed internally.

Your apparent bigotry has no substantial evidence.  You're just spreading paranoia.

"The International Atomic Energy Agency  reported in 2003 that, "based on credible scientific evidence, there is no proven link between DU exposure and increases in human cancers or other significant health or environmental impacts," although "Like other heavy metals, DU is potentially poisonous. In sufficient amounts, if DU is ingested or inhaled it can be harmful because of its chemical toxicity. High concentration could cause kidney damage." The IAEA concluded that while depleted uranium is a potential carcinogen, there is no evidence that it has been carcinogenic in humans."

More facts here:
http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Features/DU/faq_depleted_uranium.shtml

RP, go buy the army surplus camel pack if it's cheaper, it'll work just the same, I think camel even makes them.

I do alot of mountain biking and I have been wanting to get one of these.
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/14270-130_SETMF5-2-Accessories-171-Hydration/Sette-Max-Flopak-Hydration-System-100oz.htm
It's super cheap and I have read on mtbr.com that it is decent quality for the price.

If you mountain bike, and you don't own one of these, do yourself a favor and get one of the best biking accessories a person can own.

That's a decent pack, and the reservoirs can always be replaced with whatever brand if you endo and land on your back like a friend of mine...

Have you seen one of these Sette brand in action? I am currently just rocking this old shitty bookbag that I fill with tools gear and water bottles. I have had a mountain bike for a couples years now but I just recently moved to Utah and love everything about cycling here so I'm all picking up new mountain biking toys.

I haven't seen that particular one, but it sure doesn't look bad for the price, and has a nice big bladder.  As they get more expensive, they get more durable (sometimes), more comfortable (most of the time), and usually have some sort of back padding/venting, and may have activity-specific options (like a way to fasten a full-face helmet without it swinging around, or a padded, lined media/camera/camcorder pocket), but it's up to you to decide what you need.  If you hit the trail often, it might be worth splurging a little on a nice hydration pack with some features you like.  Go to an outdoor gear or cycling store and check out what they have to get an idea of the things you may or may not consider optional.

Ouch man.... Not all of us who served overseas in the current combat operations have 'baby blood' on anything we may have carried.
Also, I don't know about what you say about the depleted uranium, I just know I, and plenty of others, spent alot of time loading, and handling the rounds, and all seem fine so far. I can't comment on the effect of fired depleted uranium rounds, but I know plenty who spent alot of time in areas where these rounds had been used, and to my knowledge, all are fine.
