1 Pint Jars
    #12996126 - 08/03/10 01:40 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Awhile ago I got my roommate to go out and get me some jars but he got 1 pint by accident and I can no longer return them...Just wondering if I could still use them to grow? I know you cant do the brf cakes because they get to compacted but could I fill them half way or 75% of the way?

As far as I know they will work just fine.  Put the need on the side of the jar and inject.
Perhaps try using 2cc per jar as opposed to 1cc?

They will probably just take a little longer to colonize.

and how do you propose to get the cakes out?

You can use 1 pint jars but only for grain no pf tek unless you are going to spawn them cause you dont need to worry about them retaining shape and can just dig them out the jar

The 1 pint jars aren't necessarily a smaller mouth than the others though.  It depends what style of jar.

O yea.  I have never seen a pint jar with a wide mouth where I am located

Well I might just save them to do grain then just get 1/2 pint for the brf cakes for now.

The Wide Mouth pints will work. But only under certain circumstances.

If you decide to use, only fill them half full. But this doesn't work with the standard verm barrier.
You will need to make lids with filters.

They'll be fine, they just take longer. And during that longer time frame you supposedly run a higher risk of contams. May need longer sterilization(?)

I sterilized the jars tonight doing 12 1/2pints and 2 1 pint jars....I only had enough room in the pot to do all the jars but one so I just inoculated the one with out sterilization cause I didnt want to have to wait 60 Min's to sterilize one jar..just waiting till they cool...

I tried that before ... It was a total mess. Cobweb all over the place. Black mold. Trichoderma. Only little mycelium, smelly as hell >.< Man, that stench was awful. My living room smelled like that for 2 days or so after i thrown that complete jar out -.-

Just like in family guy.. "she should have thrown that cake out, so it won't mess up all of the biatches house" or whatever that kid wrote

Well its to late cause I already knocked up the unsterile jar but its being stored some where completely different. I was lucky enough that where I bought my jars I got wide mouth pints and 1/2 pints you can even buy 1/4pints wide mouth. Should be interesting what happens with the jar but I doubt it will do anything but get contams. As for all the other jars they will be knocked up tomorrow.

I used 1 Pint wide-mouths on my current grow.  Works fine.  2 weeks to 100% colonization, just waiting the week for consolidation.

Wide mouth pints work fine despite everyones saying not to use them. I have a huge collection of both pints and half pints from when I first started and pints pretty much always worked despite a few stalled jars. Just be sure not to tamp them at all and be gentle while handling them before sterilization.
