coir contains trich
    #12992403 - 08/02/10 06:50 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I was reading about roots in plants and came across this. I quote the web site:

Some innovative propagation materials are inoculated with strains of Trichoderma. Many forms of coco coir contain it naturally. CANNA's Coco Growing Media is inoculated with it. If a healthy root environment is maintained, the bacteria will continue to colonize the roots and multiply in the growing media. The trichoderma help to form a protective layer around the root system, helping to fend off invading pathogens, etc.

END QUOTE. Should this be of concern?

Foxfarm doesn't make coco coir,at least not that I know of...never seen it in my local hydroponic stores and can't find it on the foxfarm website.

Get the Zoo Med Eco Earth Coco Coir. You can order online from Petsmart (they don't seem to carry it in store) or from any small local pet store in your area that deals with reptiles.I get mine from my local Petland store.

You could also order online from http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6016+6040+6494&pcatid=6494

There's been many threads already on this.  Coir with trichoderma added is fine if you'll properly pasteurize it.  Otherwise, get it from a pet store.
