Casing after hyphal knot formation

Recently, as a bulk substrate was being cased, it was noticed that hyphal knots had already formed on the surface of the bulk substrate. The substrate is 5+ inches deep and the casing is ~1 inch. The substrate doesn't seem to be colonizing the casing but a couple of early pins have poked through the layer. Will the rest of the knots form into pins and come through the layer in the same way? Or does something need to be done here? Will the casing eventually be colonized?
