the annulus is the piece of "skin" between the cap and the stem. it is often left on both places when the cap opens

It usually tears in the middle so that it leaves a little on the stem and a little on the cap, thus being in two places at the same time

Haha, too much philosophy for all of you, it is not in two places in the same time but half in one place half in the other, I know this was said but the intial mis-conception was so funny I just had to post SOMETHING.
