What am I doing wrong? Cobweb when I case!

I am getting frustrated. When I case my PF cakes I always get contamination. I am using foil baking pans and I crumble the cakes on 1" of vermiculite and then cover with a 1/2" of vermiculite. I put them in a rubbermaid container and then when mycilum pokes through I put the uncovered casing in a 10 gallon aquarium covered with saran wrap. I have a spray shield over the casing and spray and air out the aquarium atleast 3-4 times daily. It appears to be cobweb. What could be happening here? Please help ASAP!

either your pan or your verm has problems... or you are not clean enough!!

Spray the alum pan down with lysol and let it dry before casing ( right before, not 1 hr before!!! ).

Nuke your verm... fill a jar with verm and water, cover with a very LOOSE lid, and nuke it for a minute on, minute off... for about 10 minutes. let it cool inside the jar.

IF this does not work... I have no clue!

i got rid of my cobweb problems by having my system at waist height (it was on the ground before) when fanning with new air stand on a bed/chair to do it so you are fanning in air from the top of the room (less contams) spray lysol/dettox in the air before any fanning/misting

I microwaved the vermiculite for 30 minutes, so I did that step.

Not really. Better than cobweb, but different creature!!

What this is, is your mycelium has taken over the top of your casing, and has formed a thick layer that will not pin!!

To fix a problem like this, you would have to scrape the top of your casing a little to open it up and let pins come thru.. even add a casing layer after you sratch.. " Deep Scrathing" look it up in the FAQ!!

He asked what overlay was, i gave a brief desc.. ie: dry, dead layer of mycelium preventing it from pinning... is that wayyy off???

Don't want to be the dick here, but a pic would deffinatly help this situation. I think anno was trying to make a point, and I respect his thinking, What leads you to this conclusion. With out a pic or a description at least we can not give good or verifyable info. But Just my 2 cents, I have had problems with cobweb on a few occasions the last being my last casing :tongue: sucked and I lost the whole case, but I new and sent pics to all I asked help from.
