All American Pressure Cookers
    #1298144 - 02/10/03 10:01 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Are the bottoms of All American Pressure Cookers totaly flat? The reason I ask is I am currently using an old (circa 1950) Presto 8 quart and the bottom is silghtly rounded. I work on a hot plate (12" Corning Stir/Hot Plate) with a solid flat top so my PC only contacts the plate in the center. This means that it takes longer for the damn thing to heat and it rocks all over the place. Thanks.

I'm nobody.

The All american is machined from an aluminim castind, the bottom is almost completely flat and given the thickness of the metal, it is excelent at distribution of heat...making it less prone to warping....I use mine about 4-7 times a month, for sterilizing and canning....after about 5 years of use on this one it still sits flat on my hotplate.....my mother has one that 30 years old, still in great shape, and a flat bottom....get one now and it will be the last one you ever buy....

a rounded pc would be safest, it evenly distributes the pressure, thats why cherry bombs are louder then m-80s, they are round instead of conicle, a pc with a rounded bottom isnt going to blow up, its just pain in the ass

i won't go there but the big question is WHY the bottom is rounded. i'll betcha that it is rounded because the pressure stretched the metal to that shape, (so yes the pressure "equalized" by stretching the metal to that shape) stretched metal = weaker metal = much higher prabability of explosion and that proabability goes up considerably with each use as each time the metal will be abit thinner.

up for my pc.
what make and model are you folks using?

GE buffet range....2 burners, I only have to use 1, with an AA 921...2inches of water and never had a problem....

Wrong....that logic only applies if the PC is exploding....but it is wrong as well....
A rounded bottom has less surface area in contact with the burner, hence less heat transfer....

With a cherrybomb, the shape does help to contain the pressure a bit more than a cylindrical shape, but density of the material and several other things factor in as well....

that proves it once and for all!!! shirley IS a girl!! hehehe. it's stinkin' firecracker. suposedly a replacement for the cherry bomb but cherry bombs were the nutzos while m-80's are just loud. any self-respecting guy is intimately aware of what an m-80 is  (all in good fun shirl)

A m80 is a big ass firecracker with wax ends and a wax lined fuse.
There waterproof there the ones that kids use to flush down the john.

I don't even think they make m80 anymore
I know they make a smaller version called a m90

Lots of kids lot fingers with m80's there pretty bad. However i say a pc blowing up will be louder

What did they ban then cherrybombs?
I remember tossing one n my moms bird bath on a 35 degree day and blowing it to hell. needless to say i got no more of them and found it hard to sit for a few days.

Then we found out pvc pipe a smoke bomb fuse and a few cut open shotgun shells were way stronger and louder. This was a good idea untill we moved from 1 1/2 inch pvc to 3 inch pvc and found out our dads blackpowder gun powder worked way better than cutting abunch of shells open.

By the way a 3x6 pice of 3inch pvc pipe capped and fused isn't a good idea.
It blew a hole thru the side of my dads barn and one thru the second floor loft and thru ther roof

take a empty co2 cartige like for bb guns, drill a hole in the top, fill it with gun-powder, and put in 4 inches of green cannon fuse, seal it with hot glue, let it dry for an hour, its louder than a 10-gauge shotgun
