I go to the pool every other day pretty much
I only have a mask
I look absolutely ridiculous with them on, but I really don't give a shit, I'm here to swim laps, not have a beauty contest

I personally love em, because you can just go chill out at the bottom of a pool/river and see SUPER clear, and never worry about your nose. But, I am also aware of the fact that it's probably not "cool".
What do you do?
Better stick with stuff that makes you cool. brah.

I like goggles because I feel like a spaceman in the water and I have the advantage to all those "cool" people without goggles.

I have really long hair too. It's best to lift your hair up in the back and put it over the strap. It also helps to make the strap really tight. You can also get alternative backings. Some of them work really well and feel really comfortable. There's this one backing that has a padding and is shaped like a football like 2" wide in the middle. I like that one a lot because I can get them really tight and it doesn't hurt.

Is there a secret to keeping water out? Do I need to just get an expensive pair? I can never find any that keeps the water out.

It's either not tight enough or the wrong size. If possible, try them on before you buy them.

I wear a mask only when I'm snorkeling.
I was a competitive swimmer for about 8 years and learned very early on how to keep from sucking water up your nose. It still happens occasionally, but it's a minor nuisance after you get used to it.
Now sucking water while doing a 200m IM going balls to the walls is a problem. But adrenaline does dull the pain.

Yep, you have to be able to form a seal around your face. If it's too big or too small you won't be able to keep it water tight.

if you knock the facemask off under water you can fill it back up with air from your nose and see again this helps if your 100 ft deep and inside a sunkin ship
