casing dilemma

i really dont feel like going through all the work and making a 50/50+ casing layer. ive already spent some $40 on supplies, and dont really want to buy peat moss, and try and find CaCo3 and crushed oyster shell. i kinda just want to use plain old vermiculite for a casing, but after reading some other posts, it sounds like vermiculite does not really work (does it?). is it worth it to go and spend $10 bucks, or just use the vermiculite. this will be my first casing attempt, and straight vermiculite sounds easier. (id probably mess up the 50/50 anywho  :blush:  ) should i just do vermiculite this time, and when im more experienced, try the 50/50? thanks

Straight verms works fine. It's coloration just makes it a bit more difficult to tell when the casing starts to dry.

you can buy 50/50 already made, i herd walmart has it as JIffy Mix, Anyway all i did was went to MEIJERS which is like all the other marts but its in the northeast, anyway they got a shelf in the gardening section, with these 3 items on one rack, 50/50, Verm, And Perlite LOL good shit, mines called Seed Starter but just look at the ingredients and such, youlll find "50/50" PREMADE, its like 3 bucks a bag
