Is PF strain typically slow to grow into fruits? Im starting to get many pins, but they are growing VERY slowly.

It takes mine about 1.5 - 2 weeks to pin, and yes it does seem like some of the fruits tend grow kind of slow ( like 3-4 days from pin to maturity ) Just some of them though, some will seem to pop up and grow overnite! I think it has to do with the temp. in the terrarium, I've found that a little more heat = faster growing fruits.

That's the problem, some of my pins have been around for days, and the biggest one I have (and the oldest) is about 1 inch long and looks like it may abort, while I have a bunch of little ones that are taking forever to grow. (about 1/3 inch the biggest of these) These pins have been around for at least two to three days. I keep the terrarium warm enough (75-77*) and moist enough. (My terrarium consists of a rubbermaid bin, filled with 2 inches of perlite/water, with an airstone and a heater in this muck to provide air flow, heat, and humidity. The cakes are sitting on two aluminum cake pans with 1/4 inch wet perlite at the bottom of these, floating on the 2 inch water/perlite mixture) So why might my pins take so long to turn into fruits? I must admit, I had the cakes on a dry perlite layer in the aluminum pans, but I watered the dry perlite and I got an explosion of pins. So just wait and hope everything works out I guess?

These are PFs about 2 weeks after birth going into the first flush. Notice all the little ones? Most of them prob wont get any bigger than that. I've found this to be pretty typical of this strain. But I can usually get 3 strong flushes off each cake. So it works out in the end. BTW I just use perlite and an occasional mist for humidity. And I fan the box about 7-10 times a day.

Presumably we're talking about matias romero strain here?
My experience with this strain is similarly disappointing - colonises substrate okay, but slow as a bitch to invade casing and a useless pinner. unfortunately i have another 8 jars of it to work with. i won't be using it again.

I hear ya, I'm going to place an order with TLG as soon as these PFs are done so that I can try out some new strains. I've had my fun with PF tho, they've never let me down, so I'm not complaining.

Well, I picked my biggest mushroom off of the cake so far:
It had been growing for about six days, and it looked like it was aborting, because the head was turning really dark and I noticed black vertical lines appearing on the sides. (They are visible in the picture) This has been the biggest fruit I've had so far, I have a few more that are much smaller and skinnier on some of my cakes, but they are growing agonizingly slow as well. Today I decided to crank up my aquarium heater from 75-77* to about 81* on the dial, in hopes that the higher temps will make my pins mature at a half decent rate. This is pissing me off, Im getting pins, but they should mature in 3-4 days, yet mine haven't even broken the one inch mark, and its been at least four days now!!! Any other ideas why its taking so long for my pins to mature?
PS Im growing on whole cooked brown rice, it seems to work just as well as brown rice flour, but maybe this is a problem? I made shroom tea out of one of my cakes that I tried to case, (It got some green mold on it, so I broke off the bad half of it) and I tripped hard. Mycacellium seemed to grow fine on it, and colonize and pin allright, but could this be a problem in fruiting??

have you tried any methods to rehydrate the cakes?
ex- dunking, or straw teks?
if you mentiond this already i apologise, i must have skipped over it.

Try adding a cup of boiling water into the terrarium and just set it ontop of the perlite this seems to stimulate fruiting immensly

Quick question, do you have tape, foil or something else over the lids of your jars? I believe that if the holes are covered with duct tape its really hard for the mycelium to fully colonize the jars. I can't prove this, but I have jars from mid december that arent done yet! Some worked and some slowed down towards the end, maybe the lids were too tight or something. I'm doing a test right on a new batch with foil and tape to see if it makes a difference. I wonder if duct tape prevents O2 from entering the jars, thus suffocating the mycelium. I'll post pics comparing the 2 tests when they get ready.

No,no! I birthed the jars already! I have pins on my cake but they are taking DAYS to grow!!! I've had many pins for several days now and the biggest ones are only like a centimeter long!!! I thought pins form into mature, fruits, in 3-4 days, but its been 4-5 days and my pins are barely growing!!! The biggest one was 1/2 inch long, and I had to pick it cuz it was an abort. Any advice?

I meant the jars would colonize faster without the tape (hopefully, I'll know soon) I've always used duct tape and I see that sometimes a jar or two won't make it. So maybe thats the prob. As for your cakes, just wait longer, PF is pretty known for abhorts, if you don't have any shroomies in about 2 weeks, then I'd start worrying. Your set-up should be fine. --peace--
