Do I have a tough life?

I work in a Chinese restaurant 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, get paid $2700 a month, free to live in boss's house, boss drive me to work and go home, free food, free internet access, free utilities, no need to pay car insurance, but no worker's compensation or other benefits, should I quit or something? Anybody work more hours than me? I average about 72 hours a week or more

I work 12 hours a day, 5 or 4 days per weeks, paid 12,55$ an hour. I'm 18. The job really sucks compared to yours, it's extremely tiring and physical. No, you don't have a though life.
Just quit and go to college if you don't like it. I'm going to study psychology next year, can't wait to start this shit!

Keep doing what your doing and save the money. Save alot of money. Eventually you will have enough to buy a nice piece of land, and then farm it.
Thats just what I would do And no, does not sound like a tough life.

nah, not my dad, if it's my dad then why would I describe my life as tough? I don't even have my own house yet, I don't think traveling around the world is a good idea, I'd spend a lot of money if I do that. I have this idea of becoming a genius.... With my savings, I can get my own place and start learning everything I can on the computer(download some e-learning materials on the internet), such as languages, computer programming skills, etc, and master them, and I can work online as a freelancer, on elance or something, so I can earn money at home or apply anywhere most people would hire me cuz I speak so many languages fluently, I mean nowadays, job application asks you how many languages you speak....

you are in a similar situation as me. i am 20 and work in a restaurant. usually make about $1500 a month. on average i work about 8-10 hours a day and 48+ a week, never more than like 60 though. i only work 5 days and do get two days off. i get free food at work too but i have quite a few bills so i can't save as much.
honestly it doesn't seem like you have it too bad to me. you have an amazing oppurtunity to save some money and if you already have 50,000 thats a good start. if i was you id hold the job as long as you can stand it. their are a lot of people who are unemployed who would kill to be in your situation.
once you have saved enough you can travel the world, buy a new car with cash, or maybe even buy a home. or buy an education to get a better job. or enough weed to last you for years!

Only if I knew anybody around town who has connection with weed, I would gladly spend my money on some high quality weed, but working in a chinese restaurant doesn't give me any opportunity to know anybody who has connections with weed, it's isolated.

holy shit! you work 72 hour weeks!?
you are a bad ass motherfucker.
your pay is correct, the added benifits of house and free food makes your job a bit better than any other minimum wage job.
Dude, you're working so hard, i hope you think really hard about what you want to do with that money. Don't listen to these people saying go traveling or whatever. You want to invest that money into something that will make you more money.
You don't want to party like crazy for a couple years and then be broke again and have to go back to 12 hour days.
If you really want to become a genius and learn everything, keep in mind your brain starts seriously starting slowing down around 24-27.
Yeah i'd say your life is pretty tough, but by your own choosing. sounds like you are a very disciplined person.

But your 21 and still young so basically nothing is permanent and it seems like your off to a good start

2700 a month isn't that bad. Sure your not exactly Rich but you have a job a roof under your head and so forth. It's alot better than alot of Americans now.

Yeah hes exactly right, i worked at a chinese restaurant for about 5/6months a few days a week, and everything is under the table. everyone besides the delivery drivers/phone takers, were chinese and they worked probably at least 12 hour days. my boss's(owners) were some smart ass motherfuckers straight from china. The husband created a system for orders on the computer that defines brilliance. try this out OP! And the wife is one of the hardest working people i've ever seen.
One thing i can say about the Chinese folk, is that there work ethic is beyond what americans see on your average day. Unless you live in FL and see mexicans everywhere ( no hate ) . It really boosts me up , and i begin to think. ..Wow, they love their life and there job.
bring your wealth back to your home country maybe, or just begin to learn about computers and maybe create something for your company.

The 72 hour week blows.
However, the pay (considering you have living expenses taken care of) isn't that bad. Especially if you live in an expensive area.

I'm already a permanent resident lol. Just got my green card 3 years ago.
I can't quote all of you guys but you guys have great info. but I think I'll call it quits next month, all these stress and pressure, and I hate the dishwasher guy that I work with, he annoys the hell out of me everyday, just 3 months ago we got into a fight, but whatever, I took great advantage of him already so I don't give a shit.
See, my aunt(boss) has 2 houses, the one we live together and the other one she rent it to other people for $380/month, it's a 2 bed/1 bath house, but anyways, she says that if I quit she'll let me rent it for just $300, hell, I can even find a roommate and get him to pay me $250 a month for rent and share half the utilities so I only pay $50 a month for rent and my half shares of utilities, lol And for food, I have it pretty cheap, I can get a 100lbs of rice for $30, and 40 pounds of boneless skinless chicken thighs for $40, and 50lbs of pork meats for $50, beef for only $2 per pound, and I'll freeze them meats. The reason I got it so cheap is because I buy them via my aunt, she ordered the stuff from the wholesale food supplier that supply the restaurant every week. My aunt even told me whenever I want I can eat at the buffet for free! And I'll look for some part time job and relax and chill out, in the free time I wanna master as many languages as I can with computer software, and I wanna learn some computer stuff and master it so I can work online and get paid.
Does this sound like a good idea?

If computer stuff interests you more then that sounds like a good idea. It's a pretty big market I suppose. Programing and code bores the shit out of me though. And you might not think it, but there are physical repercussions from sitting down at a desk, particularly a in a shitty chair, all day long. But yeah sounds like you should take advantage of you bilingualism - (awesome word)
Maybe you could become a translator or something for rich Chinese dignitaries? That'd pay shitloads.

Yes, and I mean all Chinese restaurants in the US are like that, and I got this illegal honduras guy dishwashers working with me but he only gets paid $1600
I used to work in a sushi restaurant and this is exactly how it was. They worked 6 days a week we were closed sunday. And they made a fixed like 2000-2500 dollars. So its not very farfetched and this was in Alaska.

According to my math, OP is only making 9.37 an hour, which is a shit wage. I used to make more than that, back when the minimum wage was way lower than it is now. 9.37 might have been good 20 years ago, but these days you might as well look for other work, because nothing will really pay you less.
Sure, the free room and board is nice, but the lack of overtime pay and lack of benefits sucks.

nevermind the fact that most places these days won't give you much over minimum wage as it is anyway {and certainly aren't going to allow you to have any overtime regardless}
or have you forgotten that we're about one step away from government food rationing in this country as it is right now

i did the math, he's making slightly more than minimum wage. he's getting paid the overtime.
the free food and housing makes it come out to like 10/hr.
i dunno though. i doubt anyone in the thread so far can comment on 72 hour work weeks... i did 50 hour work weeks (like 60 hours with travel) for a couple months i felt like a robot.

I used to work 12 hour days. It made me want to shoot myself. The money was nice though. The free food is a benefit, I just can't help feeling that he'd be happier somewhere else, even making less money.

meh...I was working two full time jobs at one point in time / pulling close to 120 hours a week between the two of em / only bringing in about 2400 or so a month {between both checks} and STILL had to pay rent an shit on top of that
of course - I was also making more then I needed, and it *did* certainly suck being a robot like that all the time...which is why I went back to the single job at less pay after a while, because it wasn't really worth it in the end
but I also kept that crap up for nearly a year and a half before I finally gave in though

lol, this is in a basement and it ain't even my house, why would I care about being messy? Believe it or not, I grew shrooms and tripped HARD one time in there, and I almost burn the whole room with fire while I was tripping, cause some dude in here suggest that I should get a candle and look at the cool flame while I was tripping, my blanket caught on fire, and that was during the coming up of a trip, so I was able to put it out, but if it was during the climax of that intense trip, I probably burned myself alive in there, I ate like 8g of shrooms.

Mind you, I came here 10 years ago, went to middle school, high school and graduated there 3 years ago, I'm pretty good with computers, I even hacked into the school system and I got a referral for that.
