a little more of the story of the first find in '06 here - but check this pic - kinda reminds me of PMOTW ya kno so after a LOOOOONNG drive from where i used to live way more south - i look around as my wifey is sobbing by the graves of her relatives - i see pans n the lawn everywhere - and when she's done crying n cleaning the headstones she says " you can go look around if you want" she already saw me eying up the fungus i started picking a good quantity of lawn pans and all sorts of things - entalomas, hygrocybe , kinda weird finds for lawns - then as im alllll into my own finds and hunched over - my wifey says " are these any good" i kinda shrug n say " do they turn blue?" then OMG - she says " YES " "Well kinda" so i had to run over n see what she had found TO MY SUPRIZE - laying n her hand is one just like this pic above My jaw drops n i think ( damn i bet its the only one ) then i look around n see HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS covering the back of the lawn My wife thought i was sooooo weird for being soo excited - then i can't even explain the ride home after deciding that i found SOOOOO many that time - i could prob eat them - so after mowing to a count of 175 then downing another handfull we left for a 5hr ride home
now ill never forget how clean - powerfully visual - and how these made me laught SOOOOOO HARD ive never had a experience like this prob cuz i had the feeling my wife did't believe i felt anything - but omg these absolutely blew me away Hopefully i can find em again n large numbers once again n experience the cleanest buzz ever once again before i die ----- and ps - alan if your down for a road trip these will prob b poppin for a while all summer if our crazy rain keeps up

just absofuckinlutely awesome bro!!
i just commented in paradises conocybe smithii thread about how he was lucky for re finding them as they were haunting you for years and i havent re found my blueing conocybes yet either. thats just wicked man! i am so happy for ya!
i think yours look exactly like mine and the fact you found them in clover makes me think we have the same thing. triggers were meatier i think and so were paradises. yours and mine are EXACTLY alike! lukcy thing is i just got a sample sent off to workman so he can clear up my smithii vs. cyanopus dilema. check out some of mine.

oh and close call and a good heads up for futute conocybe hunters to be 100% sure on their finds. these active conocybes have just BLEACH white stems ,obviously until you bruise them and they go blue. i could see those teneras stand out now that i looked closer.

you really got your smithii butts to take to cardboard?? the ones i found did not have any mycelium stuck to the ends and being field shrooms and not wood lovers i did not even think it couid happen and did not bother trying. i didnt think they had rhizomorphic myc, sure its not just some cobweb mold?

is it?? ah shitty man i was REALLY hoping that it was working for you but i did have the sneaky suspicion it was just cobweb mold. this species just doesnt have the rhizomorphic mycelieum that you need to get good cardboard cultures, species like cyans, azzies or subs, or stropharia rugosaannulatas, or agrocybe praecox. its definetly worth experimenting tho. stamets has a species list in mycelium running showing which mushrooms will take to cardboard but i bet there is way more that will. and even some on his list dont work that good IMO, like i couldnt get wild pleurotus pulmanarious or populinus butts to take to cardboard even tho they were on the list. fun stuff to play with.

theres the pic of it...yeah i tried doing a P. ostreatus a couple months ago ..it started to grow then stopped and died suddenly..i had been walking in the woods with it for a few hours..the myc was probably weak by the time i transferred it

ya i had a oyster cap sitting in the fridge for i guess a long time as it sporulated and germninated in the same place and was just a ball of mycelium, i just add my coffee filters and grounds to it every morning.

pretty much anything ive tried in that book has worked so far. i tried the sugar salt broth for germinating spores with stuntzii and cyans and it worked. but i didnt have any thing to do with the slurry except dump it in some wood chips . he recomends a whole tea spoon worth of spores tho and i only did it with a few prints so i doubt it will be succcessful but who knows.

Could you tell me more specifically where you found these? I live in southern Wisconsin and am on my own hunt to find some mushrooms of my own, so it's great to hear that these are growing well right now!

i transferred a contam'd az plate to cardboard a couple weeks ago and its over halfway colonized!! its definitely better than trying to hope i didnt get any mold in my rye grain jar... the mycelium totally overran that shit
