Yep. Look in the rough. Long grass is trampled less and retains moisture better.

Congrats Lanceata, the mystical mushroom has chosen to reveal itself to you!
Once youve honed in on them you may well find thousands appear before you as you know what to look for. Very mystical, like they choose you, you may be walking along seeing nothing, then you'll turn around and there they will all be! (Peak season of course and the last few seasons for me this has been early-mid November due to 'Indian Summers'!)
Good finds for this time of year Stevey as well!

Nevermind... woke up this morning, sniffed some ampthetamine to get myself going, otherwize im too lazy.
The field was dry, only shrooms i found, were dried, some random dried shrooms. Sun was hot.. Id be rather growing weed under that , not find shrooms. I better stick with october and magic 10 degrees celsius. Today it was.. 25+ or so.-...

from metcheck; "Another day of heavy showers is expected across much of central and eastern Britain thanks to low pressure continuing to sit over the North Sea close to eastern England. Once again today the best of the drier and brighter weather will be found towards western areas, but it will be rather cool with a brisk northerly wind picking up in many areas."
i hope it gets as far in as the midlands.

i went out looking in close by weardale last sunday, where me and friends have found hundreds before, but there were no libs out, there were quite a few other mushrooms though, a lot of those white ones with straight strong stalks that are slimy and grow from shit, theyre always everywhere. I didn't expect to find anything. I'm going to give it another week or 2 and look again, i know an amazing field for them in another place but me and friends got stopped by police last year who found over 2500 liberty caps on us, its only a small field aswell and that was from an hours picking. If i could go back there i bet i would find some, its that good chances are there would be one or two, but the guy who owns the field has ruined it for us

last year me and a friend found around 80 liberty caps between us about 20th of august, we halfed them and had a good trip, one of those amazing body feeling trips, i love those. By the way, do people here think that the time of year mushrooms are picked relates to their potency, and also the area that they grow in? The field i mentioned before always seemed to have mushrooms in that were really intense, extremely visual, i usually stick to 50 libs for a trip (although i have had 250, which was amazing but ended with an extremely bad trip).

Yeah, I'm at a party tomorrow which is next to a mushroom field and people have picked there for years apparently, so I'll definitely take a quick look. It might have some (considering it's been raining all day here and doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon).

Hopefully this year for me will be better. First time last year after a lot of reading books and lurking this forum. Went with two of the laziest friends it turns out, didn't want to put the effort in due to it being rainy. And just as they decided to leave i found several pins.. was raging. But this year, I've gathered some enthusiastic partners.
Returning to that spot in a couple of weeks. Will post results!
Good luck everyone

Stropharia semiglobata. There are a small number of really funky variations on S. semiglobata such as hygrophanous hues, stoutness, breadth, ringiness and nippliness, and they have a long and prolific season, so it is a great species to make notes on. Please take pics of any unusual ones!

Thanks for the ID, i've checked out photos and thats definately them, whenever i go hunting, there are always shit loads of these, seems they looks very different depending upon how fresh they are. Not active then i take it? haha i hate ignoring and walking past other shrooms when looking for libs, cos i'm certain i will have held a lot of different actives when looking, but then thrown them away. So what are peoples thoughts on the potency of liberty caps depending upon the time of year and location? nobody has answered my question yet...

Fuck yeah!!!
Okay, I took your advice stevey, after a few hours of asking some friends to come out (It's chucking it down, I mean pouring buckets - Just outside of Newcastle)... so I thought fuck it, I'm gonna get my waterproofs on and go for a walk, I have the chance to go find some fields and I've found some fields about an hours walk away which have PERFECT shroom conditions, grazing land with horses, shit all over the place. I'd say about 2 weeks from now those fields may well be covered. I left after a helicopter started hovering, but yeah... I'm happy now

I used to have an image of the peak-season ones being the strongest but this has been thrown up in the air with some really late/early potent ones.
Depends on the field I think, long grass usually sprouts beastier ones as they have to grow to the top of the grass but certain fields do seem to generally have stronger ones than others. Then again in the same field you can find little diddlers and then stonking blue/black slimy ones which you know are going to knock your socks off!
Can't say I know the answer really except just by looking at a specimen you can tell if it's going to be potent (vivid colouration, extremely black gills etc etc)

You don't hunt, you don't find. End of.
Premiliminary scouting missions can be of great use to maximise your time during peak-season!
