And very nice they are to. Nice to see someone else interested in general mycology.

Didn't get time to have a proper look the other day (A police van went past just as I got into the field, I lay low then got out of there asap in case they saw me.), but I'll have a pop up in the early hours today for sure

Thanks guys, might invest in a better camera at some point. I thought the couple at the end were semilanceata, but wasn't 100% as this was my first solo hunt. Found four, at least i know they grow there

Nice pictures guys. There are so many different types of mushrooms growing here in the UK it's hard to get to know anything like the majority of them. Also their names aren't easy to learn - but I intend on being able to identify the most common few species soon.

Knowing a few common species definitely helps, because it means being able to identify liberty caps in two different ways.

Other inactive mushrooms I commonly see in Psilocybe semilanceata habitat:

Panaeolina foenisecii (very common, dark brown spore print)
Panaeolus papilionaceus (grows off dung, black spore print)
Conocybe apala (brown gills, rusty spore print)
Bolbitius vitellinus (yellow, slimy)
Stropharia semiglobata (also slimy)
Agrocybe pediades
Psathyrella species (brittle stems)
and assorted coprinoid mushrooms (inky caps), Mycena species and Hygrocybe species.

I thought people were finding pickable amounts in the North of England?

Panaeolina foenisecii are all over one of my fields right now, and a few other big, tough ones... I can't find any liberty caps yet though, give it another week. It's still too damn hot here. (19'C @ 56% Humidity...)

Edit/ I'm in the North East, and I haven't found a single lib cap yet (in about 5 fields I know that fruit each year)

Got about 60 this weekend, nearly got trampled by about 20 stampeding cows in the process, dropped a handful of them as well when I fell over in the frantic escape. Oh well. Here's some babies I found.

Pan. cinctulus? They're much weaker than libs. I've never found any but they show up on well fertilised lawns throughout spring and summer. Not sure about autumn and winter. This isn't the thread to be talking about it really, anyway.

Apparently the best spots are where there's lots of dung and hay/long grass. They should often be found there for much of the year really, in the UK. Horses stables etc.

I think the the best bet for a lib alternative in the UK is Psilocybe cyanescens. Very potent but seems largely restriced to woodchips and perhaps old forest. Though apparently it is suprisingly common in the UK, you just have to look in the right spots. It would be easy to make an outdoor cultiivation, our climate should be ideal for them. Apparently a large woodchip bed in London got infested by about 100,000 of them during the 70s. Considering you only need 1-2 for a mild experience. Imagine having that harvest to yourself?

No idea, a loud noise I'm guessing, the field is in the city center.
