Also, how do pans compare to libs by strength to weight?

Pan subs? Weak compared to libs, they are about 4x+ more potent at an estimate.

What about Pan. Cyanescens? are they stronger? P. Semilanceata seems mighty strong for such a small shroom.

Theres been some pretty heavy rain where I live (North East), but I think the weather is far too hot for shrooms to start sprouting. I went to a field on Wednesday and found small batches of LBM's but found no libs... Though last night I had a dream I found a load of P. Semilanceata pins, is this a sign? :P

Pan cyans are strong but they don't grow in the UK - a tropical species, similar strength to libs. Psilocybe cyanescens grow here though and they are very potent, probably more so than libs. Look on woodchips in late autumn/early winter.

Holy. Shit.

The heavens just opened up on my area, I haven't seen it rain this hard since last year. Looks like I'll be going for a cycle tomorrow...

If it's too warm head to altitude. I think most upland areas of the British Isles are fruiting liberty caps now. I found one at medium altitude in south UK today so they must be about if you look in the right locations. Seems the season may be starting early...?

Went out hunting again today. Took a load of pictures of inactives, and saw one clump which looked slightly like libs. I'm 90% sure they weren't libs, however I picked one and brought it home to take a spore print just to be sure. Here are some pics for you:

What do you guys think? The dark gills and the nipple on top (not very pronounced in this picture, but it was more evident on the smaller ones I didn't pick, see below) looked similar to my (highly untrained) eye.

Tried bruising it, but it didn't really change it's appearance, in fact, it seems really dried out, and there wasn't much juice in it at all.

The whole patch looked like this (sorry for the rubbish focus on the camera):

Here are the other random mushrooms I saw out and about:

It looks awfully lib-ish with the wrinkled margin.  If you say the texture is way off it must be something like Panaeolus papilonaceus or something.  Show us the print when you can.

At the bottom, Gymnopus (wild guess!), Stropharia semiglobata and Hygrocybe sp.

Yeah all of the mushrooms in that patch are the same kind, so if you think one is a lib then I'm sure they all are. Spore print hasn't done anything so far, although looking at the stem again it does look rather blue around the bottom, so I think these are libs. Not bad considering its the Aug 20th and this is the South I'm looking in!

Hopefully if I leave these alone for a few days more will come up in the general area. As it stands, even if I pick every one it's nowhere near enough to trip on.

Thanks for the help with the ID guys.

I don't think they are libs, I've seen Stropharia semiglobata (dung roundhead) looking like them. Don't see nipple, stems look too straight and don't see the dark ring that often forms when dry around bottom. Weren't around dung by any chance were they...

A lib I found for comparison. http://i38.tinypic.com/24dhhjd.jpg

Ah, thanks for the heads up. I initially thought that the vertical length of the cap was too long to be a Stropharia semiglobata, but looking at your pictures, it appears that you're right. They were fairly close to dung (they were in a cow field, it's hard not to be). Cheers.
