I have to dispute the 'sheep fields are best' allegation.
For over a decade I know of many a cow field producing yields you could only dream of......
If the pasture looks right.....

No our season is all but over at that point, 'we' found 20/thirty stragglers after one last ridiculous foray just before Crimbo after reading of finds on here. Most patches were long, long gone tho by then tho

Incidently Stevey I notice your end (the North West) bears fruit before the east, I'm guessing because of elavation and the Atlantic nearby and all that brings. You were finding them earlier but then all your spots died as we were still harvesting peak bizness.
We shall see from this years reports if similar is true.
Just as Scotland fruits long before the South Coast.
(I heard once off an old skool picker that the old hippies way back used to make a pilgrimage to The Shetland Isles every June/July as because of such a Northernly latitude the peak-season there was much earlier. This guy said he had never seen so many libs so concentrated -a small bit of a enbankment which had split to form a small island in a river yielded a few thousand!)

Well, I went out after tea and found the grand total of ONE (1) liberty cap. Well at least I now know my new field is producing the goods, and next week will be a good time to pick because it's gonna be chucking it down for a few days
Can't wait

All my spots are near canals or creeks.
Might be a good clue for people trying to find a spot.

The South West will field an abundance of libs........... very late in the season!
Someone from your neck of the woods (Cornwall) reported a haul of 1000 around December 18th last year!
I did not find a single lib until we were into november last year
I had been walking through the same fields nearly every day without a single find and then all of a sudden..
about a 3 week window of almost guaranteed success every day, I would go out for an hour or two and come back with a few hundred..
bring on oct/nov...

Hey guys, new member here. Just been wondering around a couple of fields around my house and picked up a few mushrooms. I doubt any of these ones are magic, although I thought a couple resembled Liberty Caps. Anyone able to give a guess at what they are?

Panaeolina foenisecii. Not active and of no culinary value. None of them resemble liberty caps so it's probably best you do a bit more research.

Ah, fantastic, liking the quick reply too. Most likely be posting back here later on somewhen, as I friends know of a few other locations where they have found Liberty Caps before. Just thought I'd check around my house since we had a fair amount of rain last night, and they're pastures with cows grazing on them.

No point checking unless you know what the thing you're looking for looks like.

Well know I know that what I'm looking for isn't there, don't I? No need to be so pessimistic.

Hi all some nice finds already I see mmmmmmm! Last yr was my 1st hunting, very successful thanks mostly to advice from these forums. I had a good scout around yesterday (in the midlands) nothing active yet but hundreds of inactives around compared to a couple of weeks ago when there was hardly anything so the final countdown has begun da da da dah, da da dadadah!

Found another lib I think... accidentally noticed it right outside garden on a grass verge, not high altitude bit unusual I thought. Cap been half eaten by something but certainly looks like a lib right? It has a pelicle (the clear sticky membrane thing).

The libs are out in South Wales people, even at low altitude.

So I know how to find my libs, found thousands last year. I would love to find some pans though.
Also, how do pans compare to libs by strength to weight?

Pan. cinctulus? They're much weaker than libs. I've never found any but they show up on well fertilised lawns throughout spring and summer. Not sure about autumn and winter. This isn't the thread to be talking about it really, anyway.
