dicky21 said: Hey Explorer.... just browsing your gallery. Liking the photo of the amanita without the white warts I took a pic of one like that last year.... they look amazing. Also great lib haul.... your field/s seem to produce ALOT. What part of the UK you in?
I'm based in North Lincs, have local patches and some in Lincs proper but then skirmish into North York Moors, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Derbyshire Dales!
...Obviously can't give you too detailed info
A couple of seasons ago it seemed every field we checked in uncovered some fruits in peak-season, less so last year as it seemed way too dry till too late in the season locally.
Love the hunt for a new patch, once unearthed, if treated right will be with you for a lifetime! Like to cycle existing patches i.e. visit one day then check another the next and so on so that each spot gets at least a week, preferably two, to recover.
A tactic of mine has been to frantically hunt for new spots when the season is at its peak so that new spots really reveal themselves, always think could go too early and mark an area as no good but then they appear later.
Then as time ebbs away, cycle the existing spots.
Been picking 12 years now, to all the newcomers, perseverence is key.

Exactly that.... took me many a trip last year but it eventually paid off. Im a little bit wiser this year so hopefully should be able to find some newer spots. Not bad for my first year though. See some people come on here but I dont think they look long enough and hard enough.

Went out hunting now for an hour in some local cow fields. Found three difference species of mushrooms, but no libs unfortunately. The first species had tan gills, tan stalk and a cap shaped like a UFO. The second species was similar but with a cap which was much more like a bell. The third species had a bright yellow cap with white gills and a white stalk. The first and second both bruised to a brown, and I didn't even bother bruising the third because it's obviously not a lib, and looked poisonous to me.
Don't know whether to take this is a good sign or a bad one. On the one hand, I know that this area is suitable for mushrooms to grow in, and I can find them, but the lack of libs is massively disappointing. I'll check the other side tomorrow, and if I don't get any luck then, I might take a trip up north.

I still can't figure out why this is, maybe their manure contains some better nutrients for libs?

Something like that. I like the way sheep eat, with their heads to the ground and constantly looking forward to the next mushroomy clump of grass. Maybe it's their wool or urine or their breath or mushrooms make them sneeze. It's their secret.

Just checked metcheck and it looks as if the weather is gonna remain this warm for the next couple of weeks.
Don't hold much hope for finding anything before mid-september around here (Bristol / Somerset) for the time being.
Yes I walk the dog through some of my spots most days. very little hope for us just yet...

was woken by the cats last night bout 5 in morning
If my sleepy eyes were telling the truth the temp was around 6 deg on the thermometer in our garden. but it got way up to and maybe past 25 yesterday afternoon (east mids). its fairly wet tho so if i find a few spare hours today i think a little walk is in order.
Being so cold last night i think its time for some of my plants to come inside.

I've picked rather a lot, but I want to go through my shots or have another really good day before I post copiously.
