AtYourLiberty said: i went out looking in close by weardale last sunday, where me and friends have found hundreds before, but there were no libs out, there were quite a few other mushrooms though, a lot of those white ones with straight strong stalks that are slimy and grow from shit, theyre always everywhere. I didn't expect to find anything. I'm going to give it another week or 2 and look again, i know an amazing field for them in another place but me and friends got stopped by police last year who found over 2500 liberty caps on us, its only a small field aswell and that was from an hours picking. If i could go back there i bet i would find some, its that good chances are there would be one or two, but the guy who owns the field has ruined it for us
Geez man that's my worst nightmare, what did the cops do? Confiscation... or worse? What did you say to them and was it the owner of the field who dobbed you in?
Early dawn raid in order methinks....

Or middle of night raid?
I was a bit like a rabbit in headlights earlier when I was scouting for a field, I had just hopped over the fence and was lookin for signs of the natures glory when I heard a helicopter coming my way, it hovered a bit then took off. I didn't know what to do to look unsuspicious (probably already looked suspicious), so I just got my phone out and acted as if I was cutting the field, when it flew off. 5 minutes later I heard sirens and shit myself, jogged over to the fence and got out of there. On the way home, it turns out someone had crashed their car and thats the sirens I heard haha... A friend who also picks those fields has had to drop a bag of shrooms before cause of a helicopter.
If you drop them and leave them, can they still charge you? or is it classed as an unknowns pickings etc?

I was stopped last year on my first hunt with 500+ libs. Police asked questions but were kind enough to let us go. Theres a thread on here somewhere...

To the person enquiring about seasonal variation as to strength - according to a respectable source, there's very little difference between psilocybe semilanceata potency in general.

But surely the big slimyish pronounced vein almost throbbing libs are muchos stronger than some of the little 'Plain Jane's' you get in the short grass of certain fields?
R gang have certainly felt the oomph, brute force of certain batches to overs.
An acquantence of ours recently spoke of a guy who had been picking half a decade or so longer than us who said he left your average lib and only stocked up on the 'brutal' looking specimens.

Feelin' it bro', always get spooked the frights when diving into some private land for a skirmish....
Have had to walk past thousands in one field sticking to the footpath as Farmer Giles was in view behind!!
Apparently there is a loophole whereby if you stick to your death that you was picking some field mushrooms for say a bolognese that evening and you had absolutely no idea they were magi's, there is nothing they can do.
I think most cops realise were pretty harmless and trespassing is the worst crime, they get tons more troublr from rowdy pissheads on a Friday night. There may always maybe be that young one out to prove himself however...
Though as far as I knew, since the new inception of the draconian laws of our government had been undemocratically rushed through th House of Lords, no-one has been prosecuted in a court of law regarding such laws.
That's what I read a couple of seasons back mind but to my mind still holds true. Some common sense from the boys in blue.

Carry a field guide when you're out picking, if you get stopped by the feds simply explain that you're interested in Mycology as a whole and study it as a hobby all year round.
At this particular time of the year certain genus are more common than others and on this occasion you were searching for Semilanceata (probably best to drop the 'psilocybe').
To be fair thats the gods honest truth in my case.
I've got loads of photos on my phone of mushrooms of all types I've spotted over the year to back the fact I'm interested in Mycology and not just getting wasted eating psilocybe mushrooms. 90% of the police force will confiscate your finds and send you on your way with a verbal warning.
Though it may be heartbreaking to loose a days worth of mushrooms - it's not exactly a hard one to talk your way out of.
Also having a dog helps avoid suspicion!!

True ... i think a field guide would help. As would a bag with other species of mushrooms in as well so you could claim ignorance. Only thing is if you're standing there with a shit load, surely it looks suspicious why you have soo many of the same species?
In regards to tresspassing, depending on where in the UK you are it actually isnt a criminal offence to tresspass. In England and Wales its a civil offence but not too sure about Scotland?
Uk Explorer ... haha yea it was my first trip so will allways be special

My hunting places are almost entirely public access land. I don't want to risk getting into trouble with a farmer or even worse getting in trouble with the Rozzers because the farmer called them. Head up into the uplands with heathland/moorland if possible. No trespassing worries and you're often the only one up there. Of course this is difficult if you live in some areas but even in SE England you have the South Downs etc, maybe it's worth a journey. The uplands are probably the best hunting areas anyway. You could make a weekend of it if it's far away, do some camping etc.
Where I go there are a lot of bilberries so I can pretend I'm picking them.

I have recently moved up to Harrogate (about 45 minutes from the yorkshire dales) and I'm really excited reading this thread. I have a day off on Monday so i might just have a quick look about to get back in the swing of things. Ive only ever hunted once in Berkshire in a farmers field that i was given permission to use. The grass was so short i only found FOUR.
I'm fairly new to it all but i already feel that these things are magical. They call me and they come to me in my dreams. I'm borderline obsessive. I have to find them.

Well it's my first post here but i've been an avid reader for years , anyway keeping on topic i've got a few nice spots i'm eyeing up to go and take a look at tomorrow morning and see how things are progressing , there was quite a few cows around in said locations and what with all the rain we've been getting things are (hopefully ) looking up , theres also apparantly a decent amount grow on a park close by but last year all the estate dwelling yobos figured it out and pretty much ransacked the place way too early
