Thanks wiscokid!
It's 11, I forgot I put the half-peeled one in with a load of Panaeolus.
There were lots of Hygrocybes and big coprinoids out for the most part.

It's been a great weekend for finding libs on my little walks, they are still massively outnumbered by a lot of other mushrooms but I have passed the 100 mark.
Dinner tonight included a Vascellum pratense and lots of raspberries, and I just found some nice Suillus grevillei for breakfast. I feel blessed. To top the weekend off my visitors made pictures using Coprinus ink:

Most are still ripening but I had a lot of perfectly ripe raspberries, had to rummage through nettle beds for the good ones; the blackberries are still very tart. How's your, er...?

As well as rain I reckon there's a lot more summer in this summer yet.

Plenty of libs to go round, you'll get some! But he beat me to it... this year!
If you found any Psilocybe cyanescens one should be most jealous.

They're looking good. I was walking in woods and fields in another part of Wales, found no libs in the fields, having chosen that spot for altitude, type of grass, sheep shit and other factors that made it similar to my patch. Anyway the woods were jam packed but I came away with just a handful of nonsense (mainly Boletus luridus) so I could still climb fences.

I doubt altitude is the only explanation - or at least hilltops don't seem consistently best - more that valleys acquire their own likely weather systems and the weather in those microclimates can be more conducive for widespread sporulation (eg in a cool wind tunnel) and mycelial growth (eg if there is nearly constant rain and dew), and then you can factor in altitude as well. Any of those theories, for my part, are work in progress.

The season hasn't really begun either way so if you're waiting for a big hunt wait a bit longer. I wouldn't bank on the golf course, mushrooms absorb whatever pesticides and other pollutants are there and if you do find a patch it still doesn't compete with fields. If you put aside some proper time, nowhere in this country is more than a short bus or train ride to sheep fields galore.

Stropharia semiglobata. There are a small number of really funky variations on S. semiglobata such as hygrophanous hues, stoutness, breadth, ringiness and nippliness, and they have a long and prolific season, so it is a great species to make notes on. Please take pics of any unusual ones!
