Nicotina Rustica Noob
    #12960996 - 07/27/10 11:29 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

So i have a few Nicotina Rustica's and they are looking ready this week.
Thing is i live in an inner city area, and dont have access to a drying barn or anything fancy.

Im concerned that if i try and cure them indoors... my warm carpeted apartment will encourage mold.

I also dont understand the basic concept behind various ways of curing and how it effects the smoking. Ive been told curing is the make or break part of making tobacco and i dont want to fuck it up.

Id like to use this as is, rather then making the Mapacho preparation as it may be a bit too strong for my tastes.

So please any ideas or experience curing tobacco in an inner city area.
I guess can create a wooden curing box with a fan and desiccant if needs be... or even use the kitchen oven.

I live in central florida, and in early spring I harvested my crop of N. rustica

I let half dry in the sun, simply cut the stems at the ground and split the stalk until halfway up the plant - this is said to make it a sweeter smoke, it is also much faster process

I hung the other half of the crop, individual leaves on string in my workshop for about 25 days. - this way was supposed to make it more pronounced flavor.

this was my first time ever growing it.

my thoughts on it are:

they both taste almost the same the ones that dried in the sun are a bit lighter in colour however.

the ones that dried on the string have a stronger smell and seem to be more sticky

I dont inhale it, i just puff it in a pipe i carved, from a branch that fell from one of my trees.

I imagine if yuo were to make it into a moist pipe tobacco it may taste different, but my stuff tasted just like a very fine cigar.

~ Cheers~ :strokebeard:
