Cool mist provides FAE or humidity? 1

for the sake of clarification, does a cool mist humidifier provide humidity or FAE?
ive read several posts, giving contradicting information regarding fae and humidity.
i have a cool mist that i have rigged up to a bucket of coir. its past the first flush and i decided to try out my humidifier.
how long should i have it running for? does it provide fae or humidity? or both?
what is your opinion?

In the Martha tek that Magash came up with the Coolmist runs 24/7 and the Ultrasonic comes on every few hours to mist everything. I guess the answer to your question would be "both".
Search Magash's post on the topic for anymore clarification. ~P~

If the coolmist is taking air from outside of the FC then yes it is providing fresh air.
If the coolmist is recirculating air within the FC then no it is not providing fresh air.
Regardless of where the air is coming from it is adding humidity.
However, if the air outside of the FC is arid then I am not sure if it would increase it enough, therefore needing supplemental humidity.

I hope you're not using a wick style coolmist, it doesn't put out enough humidity.
The answer to your original question is both. You want to use an impeller style or ultrasonic.

A cool mist will provide humidity + FAE. Although if you have it in the same area (recycled) it will provide even more humidity but not FAE.
1 min on and 6 mins off is what I have read from RR. But it could have been dated info, as the post was quite old.

what exactly is a wick style cool mist? i have this kind: ]http://www.mysears.com/images/review/2009/30/15/1233349347-55762_full.jpg[/image]
is this the correct one?
i have it running for maybe a half an hour then i shut it off for another half hour... i think this is reasonable...
thoughts?

I don't know from experience but I've been doing a bunch of reading on the same subject. So far what I've found suggests a coolmist by itself, on the outside pumping in, will provide FAE, but it will have trouble keeping humidity up.
A coolmist on the inside of a greenhouse can keep humidity up. It also provides some air circulation within the greenhouse, which is good because mold likes stagnant air. However, the air circulation isn't fresh air, its still the recycled air. RR has said the best thing to do is use a coolmist at the bottom of the greenhouse with some holes or slits cut in the walls of the greenhouse. The turbulence from the coolmist will draw in fresh air through the slits, and the coolmist only has to run intervals of a few minutes to keep the humidity up.
Again, I haven't tested that, but its from RR so I'd assume its correct.

A wick humidifier has a wick in it and a fan. It blows air pas the wick.
You have the impeller type. The liquid is draw up thru the tube into a spinning impeller that atomizes the liquid. This type will work fine. Only thing to watch about those small impeller units is that the moisture output drops off quickly when the water level gets low.

ok thanks guys!
one more question: does the length of the hose have an effect on humidity or FAE? how about the location of the humidifier relative to my grow?
for example, i have a 5.5 ft long vacuum hose that snakes vertically from the humidifier upwards towards my grow.
does the length and the vertical positioning of the hose have an effect on humidity? i noticed air is still coming through, just not too much moisture.
i think because the moisture is getting stuck in the tube when it goes upward and in it's curves. should i get a shorter tube?
thanks shroomery!
