Anyone see anything wrong with this incubator?

I am using a Rubbermaid with 2-3 inches of standing water with the heater directly in the water set at 83 degrees. The reason i did this is because the room gets very cool sometimes and the heater in a jar didnt give adaquate heat. The jars are setting in the water with the water about 2/3 up the side of the jars. The lids are tight on the jars, but the 4 holes for inocculation aren't taped, for air exchange. I also have aluminum foil over the lids to keep out any condensation. Can anyone see any problems with this set up? thanks

Nope pretty good other than some fine tuning. A blanket or other insuator may be required to keep air temp up. Check with a thermometer. 84-86 is truly optimal. and I found better heating consitency with the additon of a water pump to prevent hot/cold spots. (using a pair of 9"Hx18"Wx42"L containers so this was an issue)
Also if you are using grains you may need to open a few holes to allow for air exchange less the lids are on upside down.

its gonna get too humid in there, and harbor contams. If it were me, i'd get another rubbermaid of the same size, put water in the first one like you did with the heater in the bottom, and set the other one inside of the first. Then put the jars in the second jar. That way they're in their own container, and the water isn't touching the jars.

The other problem is with jar placement. Those closer to the heater will be significantly warmer than those farther from it. Going with a two-bin setup would be a good idea.

Stoner that I am missed there was only one container. Bad Idea the humidity (as previously stated) is going to cause contam issues.

If you insist on doing this I hope you are mixing a liberal amount of H202 in with the water to *help* battle contams. I emphasize "help" because H202 won't kill everything.
You'd be well advised to do as the others said and use the 2 bin method.
