I haven't been following this thread closely, but just saw something above that freaked me the hell out.
Do NOT spray insecticides on your mushrooms. After harvest, which you should have done by now anyway, all you have to do is bump the mushrooms on a table a few times and the bugs will get knocked off. We grow a lot of outdoor mushrooms and they're always covered with small bugs of one kind or another. They're easy to get rid of as said above. Mushrooms absorb water, so any water based pesticide will be absorbed right into the fruit. I doubt seriously anyone wants to eat nerve toxins.
It's bad enough when apple growers spray their fruits, but in that case the toxins stay on the surface where 'most' can be rinsed off. Not so with mushrooms which will absorb the poison and then transfer it directly to your liver when you eat them. Think about that while you're tripping and it won't be pleasant. If you've already sprayed the damn things, toss them out. The spray is a thousand times worse than any bug. RR

Not at all. FUD aside, pyrethrin is a very safe and well-known product. (Use as directed, etc.)

I didn't spray the mushrooms with anything. I just wiped off the bugs best I could with my fingers/paper towel and then set them to dry. There was only 4-5 mushrooms with bugs on them.
Thanks for the input everyone.

So a little follow-up:
The mites ate the myc down to the bare substrate, but not the mushrooms. They never turned into flies though. The contamination stayed contained to one tray. Got a third flush even. Now I'm getting ready to start over with clean stuff and do a Burma / Costa Rican run.
I guess whatever those buggers were, they feed off of fungus for sure. Definitely don't want them. After they eat the myc, the substrate rots with contaminants.
Gotta say it was worth it to see what happened.
