That's why I shop at the local organic meat shop.
Sure an animal was killed, but I KNOW it was raised locally, and it was raised to my standards.
Honestly, I have been a huge supporter of organic food, but up until recently I had not tried much meat, except for deer.
Well now I have, and let me tell you, it's no exaggeration, it tastes much better. I have organic chicken and buffalo burgers in my freezer right now.

I've watched Earthlings. All of it.
It fucked me up and I'm glad it did. I needed that wake up call. I was against animal cruelty and blabla but I needed to SEE it before I really realized what went on.
Result is that this is months ago and I have since drastically restricted my meat eating habits, in favor of fish. (caught, not farmed fish)
Sure, fish all asphyxiate, but at least they had a life worth living in the ocean before being caught.
Its not just the slaughter of these animals that gets to me, it is the horrible life they had before being slaughtered. No grassy meadow, frolicking in the sun. Nope, cramped quarters, steel and concrete under fluorescent tubes. Generations being born and being killed in a closed death camp system.
Because I feel many people need to see it to realize, as I did, I made a YouTube video about Fur Farms. Warning: this will affect you.
It may move you to tears, but I hope it will move you to action as well. Discover what your part in the animal holocaust is, and what you can do about it. You need not become a vegan, but you can decide to rely on different animal foodsources, that have been handled more ethically.

^^Isn't that a semi-old PeTA video, played to The Unforgiven?^^
Anyhow, I'd like to thank the OP for the link, Many of the 'documentaries' on that site look interesting.

I've seen a gif of a pig being decapitated with a chainsaw, and one of a cow in an industrial grinder. I don't need to see any more.

How many chinese fur farms have you visited recently?
Its not a "PETA movie" it is footage taken independently by a Chinese filmer, and the footage was subsequently used by many animal rights orgs. Its not like PETA made it.

There is a short video preview of the 1:30 documentary for anyone who wants to get a glimpse of what the full video is about.
I wonder what can be done.. a few scenes were capable of piquing emotional responses in me. I am really considering vegetarianism at present; something that has always been on my mind but this video has given a major push. On an individual level I can make my own choices but I don't feel like that is enough for a issue like this. Sharing this type of video, talking about it is good, sure, but in a civilization that is currently dependent on this time of industry.. can anything be done?
Thanks for having the link in your signature Wiccan, I came across it in another thread earlier today.

I know this is late but I feel compelled to post about this movie.I just sat down and watched the whole thing and I have to say it has inspired me not to consume mass produced meat in any form.My pleasure is not worth this amount of suffering. If we can survive by a different means than why not?all we gain from consuming meat is proteins amino's which can easy be obtained from various vegitative sources including edibles like shitake which contain all 8 amino acids.I feel that we truly are a plague to this planet.we have caused so much damage and pain to our creator on the values of profit and greed neglecting the true wealth and beauty of this world. We seem to focus on capitol and property as a means of fulfillment. The lives we live are synthesized reproductions of a fascist dream. You exist to consume. The miracle of consciousness should be valued in every lifeform. This treatment of animals is a byproduct of these profit driven ideals and I guess some of us are really just evil.why would anyone find it necessary to skin something alive? That was fucking horrible and will not be forgotten. Some people don't deserve their lives

Right behind our apartments there's an animal slaughterhouse.
It's fucking chilling.. I'll be in the backyard reading a book or something and I'll hear the animals screaming bloody murder as they're slaughtered.
I've been a pescetarian for awhile now (I do eat seafood, eggs and dairy) and as long as I eat healthy, I don't crave meat.
I don't try to convince anyone else to change their eating habits, and I don't appreciate others trying to change mine.
It's a personal choice, like spirituality or sexual preference.

Yes it is a choice and I wouldn't condemn anyone for what they consume.I do believe however that they should know how the product they consume is produced then make a decision based upon that.I for one have been changed by this knowledge. Now that I know what goes into making those tyson hot wings I used to love,I can't allow myself to eat them. For me the benefit outweighs the cost.
BTW Im sorry to hear that you have to live behind that shit. That has got to be a buzz kill.If I where you, Id burn it down.

I've thought about it... if I were younger (and crazier), it would already be done.
It's a creepy ass place. There's no signs or ANYTHING whatsoever to let anyone know what the building is for, and only Mexicans immigrants work there that don't speak any English. They have trucks coming in and out 24/7, animals screaming at all hours of the day and night. Just last week one of those trucks crashed, leaving animal carcasses strewn all over the highway. The driver had some fucking pet monkey who ran up a pole and had to be coaxed down by the cops.
Here's the story!

misterdogman said: .... but I will still love my steak and eggs and pork chops and apple sauce and tyson breaded chicken breast strips w/ french fries. No matter how sick I think a lot of those things are! I still cant look past the fact a lot of it is propaganda somehow. Either PETA or HSUS or some version of the ASPCA and or some other humaniac Organization sponsered it somewhere down the line. I am sure of that. I am convinced it isnt like that in ALL the cases. I am sure a thin slice of the truth is in there but it is in its WORST possible light. IT is displayed here for embelishment and sensationalism. They did a good job of that though. I just still cant equate the animals lives and compare it to the humans lives whether in the holocaust or wherever. Also I cant even begin to try to balance our lives as earthlings on the same level as them as equal earthlings. Does this mean what I saw is good or right or cruelty is something we can overlook. No. But like I said I am sure this is what they want you to see in its worst and have you think its typical of daily operations. So basically yeah, it was sick and gross and those kind of things need more checks and balances.
But overall I guess when animals, of any species or genus or kingdom even class land on the fucking moon and invent lightbulbs all while writing the next great novel. Then and MAYBE then, I will start being more concerned and compassionate and possibly quit being a speciesist.
Of course this is propaganda (biased info intended to persuade) but if you think that stuff like this is atypical then you are deluding yourself. Even at it's best, meat production is fucking disgusting and cruel.
So technology is the measure of a creature's worth? When was the last time you went to the moon, invented the lightbulb, or wrote a great novel (or even a shitty novel)? If the answer is never then I guess you're life must have no value.
I'm not somebody who preaches animal rights and whatnot, but your attitudes perfectly exemplify the mindset that allows people to torture other creatures for their own self interest. That same rhetoric used to be common when talking about "subhuman" indigenous people who needed to be "civilized".
Look, meat tastes delicious. Nobody is saying that it doesn't. But we aren't supposed to eat meat every day for breakfast lunch and dinner. It's just unnatural! Even if you just ate meat one day a week, that means that the number of animals that would have to be tortured and murdered for you would decrease by a factor of 7.
