Growbox: Maintaining moisture with water sprayer
    #12930884 - 07/21/10 03:31 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Hello,

I have "dutch style" growbox... You'll see on the instruction's part 11 that they recommend spraying water daily(scroll down):
http://www.growbox.org/eng/beschrijving.htm

My question is, should the water be sprayed directly on the growbox(vermiculite/mycelium), or should it be sprayed on the walls?
And how much water should be sprayed(for example how many pushes from the water sprayer). I don't have anything to measure moisture, so I'll have to estimate... I have smaller growbox than in the pictures(maybe about one third of that size)

Thanks

Spray up and let the mist fall onto the substrate, then fan.

I didn't realize I had to fan the box. How can this be done? Would small computer fan do, or is it enough to do some hand movement to move fresh air into the growbox?

Remove the lid and fan.I have never worked with a "grow kit"...I started out 6 years ago with the PF Tek,bought a small PC,a 12 pack of 1/2 pint wide mouth canning jars, organic brown rice flour, vermiculite.

I mixed my own substrate up consisting of organic BRF and Vermiculite, yadda yadda yadda.

Next time I would suggest you start with the PF tek and make everything yourself,it is so much more rewarding that way, knowing you did it all.

There are no "grow kit" teks here, and 90% of the forum will tell you exactly what I did...to do it yourself.

^OK, but I suppose that the PF tek needs water spraying too? How much is the recommended amount of misting on a small growbox?

Enough to keep the RH in the 90s. That's all anyone can tell you, there are too many variables for a rule of thumb to apply. If you don't see condensation on the sides of the grow box it's not moist enough.

And like 'e said: do some reading, learn about your hobby, do it yourself next time.

Mist the substrate directly as needed.  In a small bag such as that kit, the substrate moisture provides the humidity.  Leave it open at top for fresh air.  For better results, put your box of substrate into a shotgun terrarium.
