Wait awhile between trips and you won't get as obsessed but still excited.
I don't find that I wonder what things would be like tripping when sober, since that type of thing varies so much that is usually the quest of taking a trip.
Your obsession with tripping could be related to your social anxiety, since you may feel that you are more or a better person when you are tripping.
I think it's best a lone, it's easy to get attached to people when your tripping then that collective world depends on that.
Many cults have formed over hallucinogens.

The thing about mushrooms if you do them enough and keep increasing dosages trying to reach new heights eventually you have an experience that will turn you off of them. Just hope you have a trip sitter or some good luck when that happens. At least that's what happened to me and everyone I know in the beginning. Then you will probably not want to trip for a good long time and will learn the key of moderation.
Quote for the win!
I wish I had that advice when I started out. I too was obsessed with tripping. And like musher_420 said, I kept pushing the envelope with a higher and higher dose of psilocybe every time until I reached a point to where I didn't even want to trip anymore. I'm still kind of in a recession point as we speak. It's kind of aggravating at times and I'm still trying to figure out why I get so sick to my stomach. I never did have any problems with being nauseous until recently.
Anyway, that's some handy advice he gave there. I'd keep it in the back of your mind. But who knows! It may not be the case for you. Everyone is different.

I do think about tripping a lot. However, it hasn't negatively affected my life so I wouldn't call it an obsession.
I'm sure after a few more trips and then some time off I'll stop thinking about it so much.

I have come to realize that the sober world is a trip in and of itself, I don't need to use psychedelics to see the beauty in things, but they are great tools that should be used sparingly and intelligently.
That last comment is one of few intelligent things I've ever heard said on this board.

i think about psychedelics all the time. when im in a beautiful environment, i always think about howd it look like when tipping. i look forward obssesivly to the next opportunity to trip. im always imagining and thinking how things would be like if i trip.
this is a problem because a) it puts less focus on other things in life - which is what tripping is about in the first place: entering reality and life. b) ive had a number of bad trips in my past, so by thinking about tripping i put myself sorta back in that state of mind, especially social anxiety and weirdness.
anybody else have this? i really feel i need to stop, but cant. im obsessed with it. always thinking and wanting to trip. in the past, ive tripped when set/setting was obviously inappropriate, but i wanted to have a good trip so much that i convinced myself that it was okay, telling myself never to do it again, only to lie to myself, "yeah i can handle it."
Dude, I had this before. It got really, really bad. Especially the "wierdness". I would always think about tripping, then the next minute I would think about a bad trip and totally freak out.
I really hate SSRI's under normal circumstances, but it's the only thing that could help me. And it did - within about two weeks I was completely back to normal. I continued to trip, but no longer obsessed over it. It's never happened again. You need to clear your head dude. I've been down this path and it leads to borderline personality disorder issues. A few of my friends had these problems too. One of them was a boyfriend who became completely obsessed with acid, ate it every day, and got so flipped out we've never seen the "real" him again - but he had a family history of schizophrenia. My best friend got obsessed with the experience and one day chased a metaphorical owl of his own creation through the woods (completely sober, I might add) and called his mom freaking out, who then called the EMT's, who had to stage an operation to drag his ass out of a tree. He also got on anti depressants and is totally fine now. Another close friend had similar issues. After being arrested for talking loudly to his slice of pizza in the student union, he began a course of anti-psychotics that have helped him tremendously. My advice is to see a doctor. These issues can be resolved with or without drugs; whatever path you choose, you should at least have someone you trust to talk to and give you advice that isn't coming from stoner buddies on the internet.
Like I said, I've been through this before. I know you're in a lot of strange anguish right now. The weirdness will subside. I wish you the best.

Well, my situation is unique in that my friends and myself included have had a past occupation that has left us with plenty of money to spend on personal bud use and the hookups from Cali to do so.
So it's a whole different thing for my inner circle. They literally have bud at all times, and blaze every time they feel the high weakening in any way. I personally don't see this type of marijuana use being any better than any other drug abuse/addiction.
It just bothers me when in the middle of a conversation they say I need to blaze another one. I'm always like "Man you just smoked a bowl less than an hour ago."
At this level of use, they seriously act retarded-ly burnt out all the time, and all intellectualism goes out the window when you're blazing couch lock indica strains all day long like its your job. I try to relate to them still, but I just don't think the meaningless jokes they crack on each other and talking about how good all the diff types of cali buds are is fulfilling anymore without partaking myself.

tripping is different than getting high on anything else when the time comes it wont be work at all to stop. Frequent use will ultimately culminate in an attitude changing experience that will cause you to respect your sober mind and that will mean more to you than the psychedelic mind. with me it changed me so much so that every voyage i take now is with respectful apprehension. I still delight in the beauty and awe of the psychedelic world, but I love thats its just a temporary retreat. They are special because I don't live there. Also, something important to remember. Your mind needs a break. Your mind neeeeds a break. If you don't allow your mind to get these breaks, your trips will become less and less significant.
there no teacher like experience.

Out of curiosity, how many people here in this post when they are in a psychidellic experience do anything productive like create, write, focus on changing an aspect of their world and actually do it (not just focus on it?). If looking for a justification for doing something (which i see a lot of ppl here trying to do) perhaps equalizing the energy in - from a psychidellic, with an energy outward would help. Can you truly say that if you saw a hundred people watching tv but one of them was 'trippin' , that the person trippin was having a greater experience than the rest?

I can fersure relate to what what alotta you are saying, especially the social anxiety/weirdness in public. i had the same attitude with MDxx, so to experience a better less harmful drug only made my chronic love for tripping worse. mainly because my brain functions on a higher level when im tripping, i notice alot more and reflect alot more on things that matter like friends, society, people, life, nature, corruption. not to mention it undoubtedly unlocks a creative/enlightened area in your brain that you can use towards art or video games, i get nukes on mw2 on like 3-4 tabs

Do what I did. Take lots of acid till you hate it and understand that psychedelics are no joke. That won't make you think about it all the time. I really don't recommend that though. And yah I was just like you. Popping in acid all the time because it was "groovy" no matter what and i could handle it? Wrong. Set and Setting are huge factors man and sometimes they can overwhelm you in a way you have never experienced, and I really learned that from a couple bad acid trips I had taken. Bad trips are the best trips I have had, they taught me that psychedelics are like parents, treat them with respect. Even after those bad trips I still have taken acid and all that stuff and binged on it. Go with the flow. Sometimes you are obsessed, sometimes you are not. You play your role and attitudes for a reason, don't think obsession is wrong. Obsession was the only way that I could understand the prestige and power of psychedelics

when i first discovered shrooms i didnt understand how people could like them it was confusing at the time to me but after that initial hurdle i chose to do them till i could figure out why people like them. i was abusing them at one long point. shrooming 2-3 times a week and eventually i couldnt trip any more. fuckin tolerance, least it wears off eventually took me 2 years to realize i got addicted to em. ANYTHING you enjoy is and can be addicting. i'd been thinking of acid and mushrooms....and then later, DMT and mescaline. people prolly hate me saying this but i love escaping reality. ive been trying to log my trips and drug experiences so one day i can compose them to a book. similar to fear and loathing in las vegas. but not in vegas and just my life as a psychonaught. different strokes for different folks
