It has been 2 weeks since i transferred some colonized sawdust substrate to this jar of rice and it is not growing on the rice.

and i also transferred a chunk of the same spawn to this bag of red alder sawdust and it is not taking to it either. It too has been about 2 weeks.
the spawn is some stuff that i bought so i don't know exactly what he used but it some kind of sawdust mixed with birdseed. I put the spawn that i bought into bags with cottonwood logs and the mycelium is taking to the logs very nicely and it is very healthy. so i don't understand why it wouldn't work!? any ideas as to why it is not colonizing in these two situations?

How does it smell? The sawdust looks a little wet. Is their any air exchange for the plastic bag. If you do not have a filter patch or something it can get anaerobic quickly

It still smells ok. There is polyfill in the closed part of the bag so it has air.

Try transferring to paterized coffee grounds. Oysters love that shit. High in acidity and retains moisture well. That's what I grow all my oyster spawn in.

Funguy, Now I think I understand where your problem is. That jar looks bacterial to me. You can't get by trying to pasteurize coffee grounds for spawn. You should sterilize. :shrug:

What kind of filter is that on your jar? I suspect that will also be your problem. Quad is right, for spawn you want to sterilize.
