I don't think he would have bothered with buying a PC if he wanted to steam jars. Now that I own a PC I will NEVER consider steaming again. First PF experience, steaming = over 50% contams. With my PC = no contams (yet).

i think that is rather obvious but if the damn PC won't hold pressure and you got jars ready to be sterilized then a quick fix is to steam them the old-skool way. damn, you think I'm retarded? I was offering a "quick-fix" to the problem he was having...

Sorry, I guess that did come across as being somewhat rude. I saw his post and assumed he was looking for a quick-fix way to fix the PC... not to sterilize his jars. If he owns a PC I'm sure he is more than aware that he can boil them.

Anyhoo I'm sorry you took offense to my response. It was not my intention to be a smart ass, though looking back it does appear that way somewhat.

you might try finding a new gasket that fits your PC too.

a little dab will do ya .
it's made for head gaskets . it will stand a lot more pressure then a pc .
a thin layer on the leaky area, use seran wrap to keep it from sticking to the rim of the pot, put the lid on, let dry and test it .

Sounds like you need to order a new gasket. You should be able to find one here: http://www.gopresto.com/cgi-bin/presto/process?f3JnCyQQ;;289

Sorry if already mentioned , but try a little petroleum jelly (vaseline ) , is a little thicker and helps with the seal . You also could order a new seal from the maker of the pc , I know is not a quick fix , but beats tossing the pc . The idea of removing it and rotating it is a good idea also .
Good Luck

check the metal surface on the pot and the lid, make sure they are clean, crape them clean if they are not.. might just be dirty!!

Some PC's will stop leaking after a few minutes anyways.. sometimes they just need to warm up a bit!!

How long did you let is leak for ? before taking it off the heat that is!??

also check for warps,, is you lid and pot nice and leveled?
