Just so there's no mixup...
Elm Oyster is Hypsizygus ulmarius
Pleurotus ostreatus has a hundred other names...mostly Pearl/Dove/Grey/etc but just wanted to clarify on the Elm.

Not to sure about your clarification, Mephistophelian.
Made a typo on the "ostreatus" That's it.
I have been reading this; http://www.shroomery.org/9405/Pleurotus-cystidiosus
And it states Pleurotus "cystidiosus" (maple, oak, beech, or elm)
Thanks for catching the typo though.

I'd agree that I've never seen Maple moniker used on P. ostreatus though, if used on P. cystidiosus I suspect that would definitely be more plausible. P. cystidiosus is also best suited for rice straw (just in case anyone was wondering).
But ya, Elm Oyster is from what I've understood reserved for Hypsizygus ulmarius
I think it would also confuse people if someone were to say "Beech Oyster" where there is already a Beech mushroom native to Japan being the Hypsizygus tessellatus (Buna shimeji). I suspect that some folks were renaming the oyster species as they found it on different types of trees and wood. Similar to how some folks label Cubes & Pans based on they're location or substrate type (though a range of animal manure names...I don't see how that'd catch on )
Oh and you have to post some pictures of the sclerotia that forms from your Tuber. No one has done it yet, I've been busy with moving so I can't, but someone has to. Its been in circulation far too long without pictures.

Check it out.
There is a side by side by side. Of stainless steel buffet trays. Black plastic trays from the dollar store.

The ELM1 culture I sent you was sent to me by Mephistophelian. He's right about the latin name btw. You can find the latin names beside the culture names in my trade list as well if your ever unsure of the latin name of something I've sent you.
Thanks for the shout out
Good luck with your projects!

On a related note...Elms, definitely don't taste as good as they're Pleurotus cousins. But it is an aggressive colonizer
Just thought you'd like to know Ham.

Just thought you'd like to know Ham.
Paul Stamets states in GGMM the opposite, that he prefers Elms over the taste of any other oyster. Personal preference I guess.
I can attest to how aggressive they can be tho. Takes 3-5 days to colonize an agar plate. Usually see them recovering from a transfer within 24 hours.
I am referring to Elm Oyster, Hypsizygus ulmarius
