Another high temp thread (towel tek failed)

Hi,
this is another thread about summer high temp. I have temp in my FC beetween 90 and 98 F. I have tried the towel method that RR suggest without any decrease in temp, only decrease in humidity because of the air exchange. Now i put two bottles of frozen water in the FC and the temp go down at 90 for about 1 hour, then they return to 98° in about 3 hours.
Cakes colonization went fine, mycelium of fruited cakes looks fine, there are no signs of contam, but im worried if with those high temp cakes will pin.
Now it's 5 days in the FC and it seems some primordia are forming, but who knows!
Are there others reliable method to lower the temp instead of the wet towel? I have air conditioning broken.
Cheers

Go buy some blocks of dry ice and put them in the FC. That will no doubt lower the temps.

Move them to another location until your air conditioning is fixed. Temperatures that high increase the chances of inviting thermophilic bacteria and mold spores to thrive

sounds like its hot there. as far as i know there isnt a specific method that works for that. you just have to be inovative. i personally would try placing the entire tub in an ice bath. and if that cools it too much raise it a little bit above the ice. and if that doesnt work than put ice in tub to keep coolness from escaping and place fc on top of that or slightly raised to achieve proper temp. its possible if there is will. where there is will there is a way.

I have just repaired the AC hopefully now i can get the fc at 82-85, which is by far better. However im lucky that where i live it seems there are very little contam. When i have pced 4 jars, the lids broke, and only with the verm barrier they have colonized standing on the floor without contam.. So contam whise, im very lucky. Hope now the temp go lower! Thanks to all for the ideas

If your in a location that is going to be that hot or to hot most of the time, you might want think about converting a old mini bar fridge into a grow chamber.
Sounds tecky but I've seen it done for other specialty plants that like it cold. Usually 10*C I just don't know about how "warm" the thermostat could be set. Its probably impractical.
Or you could make a cool humidified air system with these things. Just an Idea.
10 - 20 Litre Bucket
Fish tank water cooler. This ones called an Ice Probe ( Glad the aliens didn't use that one )
Some computer fans, the circuit bard and the coils under the actual fan would have to be sealed in some resin, two part glue is good. I've done this before.... Totally waterproof.
And a ultrasonic humidifier. Thing is they heat the water to around 25*C
And some kind of pipe works..
Its a variation on a system I have made. based of a system I saw agar make, which was a 55 gallon version. Only addition with yours would be the Ice Probe.
OK, no more edits, I swear.

I use a pelter ( or is it called peltier ) plate in a styrofoam box setup. I get my fae via aquarium pumps. Temperature is determined by the size and voltage of the plate but my setup easily knocks ten celcius off ambient temp. I hope to install led lights when I manage to find a reasonably priced one
Problem is I get a lot of condensation. This might be why my cakes contam.

Wow thats a lot of ideas! In fact i was thinking of something similar looking at modern videocard heatpipes cooling systems.. But then, my laziness made me stick with Keep It Simple Stupid lol, and therefore i just stick the ac at 15 celsius

I rather the KISS method myself to, like monotubs. I don't use that setup anymore, it was very good. Just used more power then was necessary.

If water is evaporating from the towel, there WILL be a decrease in temperature. That's just basic physics. Next time your AC goes out, play with various thickness towels and different fan locations blowing on the towel. Get it nice and close, such as only a few centimeters to make sure it dries the towel fast. RR

Two liter method works, you just have to replace them as they defrost.
You're only other true option for bringing the temps down is a $99 windo banger a/c.
But I think your fruits will grow just fine...here in Florida we find them groin wild throughout 90% of the year with temperatures ranging from the 50's to damn near 100° F.

you could cycle the lights to turn off for 15 minutes every hour. or switch to LED

i dont get that either. im using your wet towel tek right now, not only is it working, but if anything raises the humidity (op sed its lowering it) because the fresh air passes through the wet towel.

Glad that for you the towel tek is doing well, but for me temperature remain the same and humidity goes down from 92 to 82 % However now with the ac im at 88 temp and 92 hum.
