That's another thing you touched upon that I love about Massachusetts: there is SOOOoo much more to do up there!!
You really are close to soo many wonderful cities (Boston, NYC, to name a few) and there is just so much more fun activity to become involved in within the northeast.

The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America, the spirit of what's old and what's new, the spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America, the spirit of the red white and blue!

Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

Although don't ever think I'll be sporting Patriots colors for Pats games. :P
That reminds me. People in Massachusetts go CRAZZYY for sports. Very passionate about their teams up there.

I like playing sports, I can't watch them, too boring for me.

Hope everything goes smoothly for ya'!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it when you get up here.
Western Mass is probably one of the most scenic areas in the region and is right in the middle of a number of easily accessible areas of great natural beauty and also places of cultural & intellectual buzz, if you're into day/weekend trips you'll have plenty of stuff to do and to check out to keep you busy for a pretty long time.
Good luck with the move!

I moved here in January this year all the way from Scottsdale, AZ. At first I really didn't like it... it was too cold. I thought everyone was uptight and close minded. Lately though Ive been opening up to people more at work and everyone is mega cool. The people here are very willing to go out of their way to be of service. The people that do drugs and party seem to have no regard for keeping it on the dl. I learned that a couple of the guys I work with are in to the rave scene. I started a discussion with one of them about electronic music and before I knew it he told me right in front of all our co-workers including the guy that offered me the position that he could get me good E, weed, coke, and acid if I wanted. I was like... uhh I just like the music thanks anyway haha. Thats just one example of a few. Other than that im really starting to like the weather (its 110 degrees in phx today)... rains a bit too much but its a nice change from the desert. Oh and yeah the sports... they love their sports here... Almost any restaurant or bar will have a boston game on most of the time.. between hockey, basketball, baseball, and football they have nonstop conversations about the game last night or the game later today.

Duuuuude! Welcome to the Hub of the Universe. I've been all over, and nothing can touch New England. Our people can be hard, but once you're in, you're in for life...unconditionaly.
You're out in the sticks a bit, but it seems like that's what your job is all about. And you said you want to camp and do outdoorzy stuff, so you can't beat the 'berksheeahs.
Lest ye not forget that Knox made that fateful trip across the Berkshires (in dead of Winter) to deliever over 60 cannons and other military cargo to General Washington in Boston that helped the Regulars drive the Red Coats out of Boston, and ultimately provide the spark the Patriots needed to win the War.
Welcome Home!
