Strange insect behavior.
    #12897793 - 07/14/10 12:29 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

This thread is about 2 odd things I witnessed at my home with 2 different invertebrates.
First one actually isn't an insect, it's a spider.

I was just getting a drink from my fridge when I look up and see this pretty freakish looking spider. Was a wolf-spider.
So I stare at it for a bit, tell my friend in the other room and he is like, "kill it!"
So the second he says that and I start wondering how, the spider flinches like it understood my motives.

So I grab a paper plate and fold it in half to make a bug-smasher, but once the plate was folded, the spider started freefalling down the wall at amazing speed. Looked like a mountain-climber who had their rope(Web) at the top of a mountain, and it was using the string it had so it wouldn't fall straight to the ground.
It like, fell down a bit, then would stop, then it would fall down again, then stop...like it kept attaching safety points down the wall, so that if it fell, the nearest point of web attached to the wall would hold it, like those metal stakes mountaineers drive into the side of a mountain to help keep them from falling to their death.

After it reached the ground it just bolted behind my refrigerator...still have no clue where he went.

The second bug was a wasp, right outside my balcony window. He was on the opposite side of my sliding glass door, just looking inside of my apartment.
So I hunker down, and stare it right in the face...it doesn't budge.
So I start moving my hands around, and it starts watching my movements, like it was interested but not afraid.
I messed with it for a long while...then I started beating a song onto the glass window, just knocking my knuckles at certain times to makes a beat.

This is where it turns strange.

Everytime my knuckle hit the window and made a beat, the wasp would also smack his leg against the window...I had no idea bee's had rhythm!!!
So I kept knocking away, watching the little guy mimic me as if he

enjoyed my music.:smilingpuppy:

Each time I stopped playing, the bee would stop. Seemed like it liked it when I played...very odd, musical animals.
Eventually I opened my screen door and it hit the poor little guy, so he flew off far away. I feel bad for it now, because I got it to trust me then I hit it with the screen door(accident).

Please forgive me wasp! I'm sorry!:futuramamario:
