Me too - I love funk, groove and soul. Have you started with the masters like The Isley brothers, Dramatics, O'Jays, and Isaac Hayes, Roy Iyers, Maze, Mystical, The Meters/Funky Meters, Tom Tom Club? Okay - here's some groovy things though not necessarily black or of the genre:
Lydia Lunch - Smoke in the Shadows Maxwell - Black Summers Night Thrill Kill Kult - Filthiest Show in Town Esperanza Spalding - Espera
The Lydia Lunch LP should be heard no matter what. Try this link
The Meters set the standard for funk. Come on back with some for me.
Crash Test Dummys and N.E.R.D - Nerd is pretty good fro many standpoints.

You ever listened to Al Dimeola? Elegant Gypsy is a classic jazz/hard rock fusion Lp which never dies. It's not funky though - but it totally jams. Did you check out my link in the post above - you can download from it. Okay - what about 311 - Grassroots - that's a classic in this field.
