Across the Universe
    #12871905 - 07/09/10 10:46 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

So the first time I watched Across the Universe I didn't really dig it. I was really analytical of it (and benzo'd out) and just thought it sucked.

I watched it again recently because my internet didn't work. I was quite stoned. However, this time around I absolutely loved it. Maybe I'm just a sucker for sexy Liverpool accents.

The bad part about this however is that now I have Beatles songs stuck in my head almost daily accompanied with scenery from the movie.

I totally understand how it brain washed millions of tween girls to obsess over the Beatles for a short period of time.

I found the film to be great if you don't try to analyze and just enjoy. Kinda like the bible.

Haha yeah. What I originally disliked were the characters who  seemed to represent Janis Joplin,Jimi Hendrix, the Merry Pranksters and the way the acid scene occured.

The second time around I did enjoy the "pink punch" part that leads to the acid scene. There were also some really visually cool parts. Jude's character also had an incredibly sexy accent which helps make some things easier to overlook.

I am probably one of the biggest beatles fans, look at my username. But I refuse to watch it! I watched a couple minutes and had to turn it off, so at least I tried:shrug:

My friend's jaws dropped when I said I wouldnt watch it! They told me I would absolutely love it. I think what gets me is the fact that other people are singing the beatles... VERY few beatles covers I actually like.

Maybe one day if Im in the right mood, Ill give it another try.

They tried really hard, they tried too hard.. Its not a bad thing, you just cannot mimic or compete with heavy-weights like the beatles. I even listened to some of the songs on the soundtrack on LSD and it STILL didnt wet my boo boo! Great voices, but I was just turned off.

The actual covers weren't that bad. There were a few songs and scenes that come on with certain songs in the movie that I disliked. For the most part it was OK.

You should definitely see it all the way through. "Across the Universe", "With a Little Help From My Friends", "I am the Walrus" were songs that I enjoyed in the movie.

That movie is making a lot of teen girls obsess over the Beatles all over again, but this time they like to listen to Accross The Universe Covers, and the greatest hits CD.  They usually don't like the "really weird songs" which is sad.

Beatles obviously could dominate pop music, they still can, but they could also dominate the psychedelic music.  But I don't expect any of these young girls to open up there minds enough for that.

That movie was OKay.
