To the contrary, most ppl who use rubbermaids use perlite to keep the humidity high. If you used a rubbermaid without perlite and did nothing but fan and mist I don't see how you could possibly keep the rh high enough. Fanning is something you should do regardless (unless you use another method to exchange air in the container on a regular basis). You should probably read the FAQ a little more thoroughly.

fee. Those are casings right? If so you dont need perlite in your rubbermaid. Perlite is used simply to aid in keeping the rh levels up. However with casings, all the moisture you need is already provided by the casing layer. With this being said, I suggest you go out and buy a hygrometer from radio shack or something so that you can see where exactly your humidty is.

Im using a small 6 in x 6 in sterlite box fo my casings. That way the humidity is able to reach a higher level easier. the only flaw in your design (if you would call it a flaw) is that it will be much more difficult trying to maintain the proper humidity in that big of a chamber. But it looks like your doing ok so far. So keep up the good work and good luck

When working with casings in a rubbermaid container you only need to occasionally mist the walls of the terrarium to maintain humidity.
If you are battling to maintain a good level you could always introduce a bubble stone and aquarium pump.
